Award Cords are made by the populace for use by Their Royal Majesties and Their Baron's and Baroness' when giving out awards. If you would like to make award cords, visit the Royals Award Inventory page for more information.

Kingdom Award Cords

During Su of the Silver Horn's term as principal herald, specific color requirements for the Kingdom's armigerious and grant level award cords were removed. That means the royalty could request cords made in their personal colors to hang the armerigious and grant awards on. The only kingdom awards that retained a specific color of cord are Vanguard of Honor, Corde de Guerre and Legion of Courtesy. If the royalty does not request a custom color for award cords, using the traditional colors is best.

Narrow Cord

Narrow medallion cords should be at least 36" long each, if they are cut into individual cords or woven in short sections. They need to be large enough to pull over someone's head, possibly while wearing a veil or hat or glasses. (An award recipient can always shorten a cord, but never lengthen it.)

If possible, a long length of cord (multiple of 36") is very helpful, it allows the presenters to cut the cord to smaller lengths for youth awards, and (without the knots on each end) it makes it easier to thread each length of cord through the jump rings.

They should be narrow enough that they can be fed through a 1/4-inch jump-ring.

Custom

Colors can be customized by the royalty. For example during the reign of Sven II and Kolfinna II, custom cords in orange and white would have been appropriate for the royal couple. These customized color cords can be used for any award that uses a cord, except for the Legion of Courtesy, Vanguard of Honor and Corde de Guerre.

Blue and White

Bi-color: Should be blue and white/silver color. Used for armigerious and grant level awards and the Legion of Courtesy. Note: Only the Legion of Courtesy requires a blue and white cord, the armigerious and grant level awards can use a custom cord.

White: Should be white or silver in color. Can be used for armigerious awards. Note: These awards can also use a custom cord.

Wide Vanguard of Honor Cord

Should be orange and black in color.

The Vanguard of Honor awards are the cords themselves, and are wider bands. These are usually woven the size of garters, or about 1/2-inch or 3/4-inch wide. These should be long enough to hang from a shoulder or tie around the upper-arm comfortably.

Wide Corde de Guerre Cord

Should be white/silver and blue in color.

The Corde de Guerre awards are the cords themselves, and are wider bands. These are usually woven the size of garters, or about 1/2-inch or 3/4-inch wide. These should be long enough to hang from a shoulder or tie around the upper-arm comfortably.

Baronial Award Cords

Each barony uses award cord for their award medallions. The cord is usually in 2 or more of the barony's colors.

They should be narrow enough that they can be fed through, in most cases, a 1/4-inch jump-ring.

Colors

Thanks to Séamus mac Néill Uí Chonchobhair, we have the following list of territorial livery colors! These colors are from the Baronial/Shire devices, which differ in some cases from the populace badge colors. These COLORS can be worn and used by any member of the populace.

If the device is more complicated, the field tinctures are listed first, then charge tinctures. Like Al-Sahid, the field is Azure & Or, while the charges are argent and sable. An item made in the livery colors of Al-Sahid could be Azure and Or, and can also include Argent and Sable.

Barony of Starkhafn Black & White, Checky Blue, Red & Yellow From the B&B: In the past most of our award cord matched the color of the award (Service: Gold, Art: Green, Archery: Red, Combat: White). However, we could use Blue and White or Black and White. Or even Red and Yellow for our flame.
Barony of Western Seas n/a Yellow & Blue, Green & Black
Barony of Wintermist n/a n/a Red & White, Yellow 2 colors: red and white.

From the B&B: Red, White, and Yellow would be lovely too, yes as long as Yellow is less dominant than Red and White in the pattern.
