Memories of the Founding Groups
- Around Spring of 1982 in Hemet, California a man who went by the name of Jevelyan, excitedly told his friends that he had finally found a local contact number for the Society for Creative Anachronism. He had briefly been a member at the place he lived before he came to Hemet. Because there was so many of them the Barony sent a team of people to Hemet the following week to talk to the newcomers. The teachers at that first meeting were Master Aldred von Lechsend aus Froschheim, Countess Ascelyn Schirleah, Eadwynne of Runedun, Master Wilihelm Roderick FitzLovel of Kerr and Lord Duncan Brock of Greyfeather. Among the newcomers were Lochlan (Jevelyan), Damales Redbeard, Yvon Bater of Darkwood, Paganus Grimlove, Thomas Bordeaux, Allaine de Beaumont of Glastonbury, Ciaran Faol Ruadh (who now goes by Magukhai Isige), Conall Eoin MacTavish, Eldwin Nightowl, Steffan the Scrivener, Brian and Kim Rents, John Lower and others lost to memory. Several years later (in the) Hemet newspaper, there was a photo of Lord Bhaltar de Fairmont fighting Lord Duncan Brock at a local grade schools demo. The caption read “call this number for information on the Hemet chapter of the SCA. The phone number was called and introductions were made. Local meetings were moved to the home of Lord Bhaltar de Fairmont and Lady Illuminada Eugenia de Guadalupe y Godoy who had recently move to Hemet from the West. The new group was much more active than the previous group. The first event put on was aVikings vs. Romans Games in held 1986 at Valley Wide Recreation Center (http://caidwiki.org/index.php?title=Dreiburgen_Summer_Event_1986). Eventually they chose the name Gallavally and became Dreiburgen’s first incipient Canton. The name means, “Summer pastures of the foreigners,” which reflected Hemet reputation of being the winter home of many senior citizens who lived somewhere else during the rest of the year. Lady Illuminada was Gallavally’s first Seneschal. By 1988 Gallavally was very active and wanted more autonomy. When they were granted full Canton status Lord Bhaltar was the Seneschal. Some of the other people who worked hard to help make Gallavally a force in the Barony were Ceinwen ferch Rhys ap Gawain, Dante Lizza, Virginia le Swann, Casia Thessalonica apo Constantinopolios, the Tinker family, the Adderholt family, Joey Henderson, Michelle Kinney, Christopher Bage and others lost to memory. ~ by Baroness Allaine de Beaumont of Glastonbury (condensed with permission by Eadwynne of Runedun)
