Dolphin Herald is the chief deputy of [[Crescent Principal Herald]]. Since November 2010, Dolphin is the primary [[Submissions Herald]] and therefore is also an officer of the College of Arms of the Society. The heraldic title of Dolphin was registered in May 1978 and was originally assigned to the herald responsible for the Caidan Order of Precedence. The first holder of this office was Alison von Markheim. When John ap Griffin stepped down as chief deputy to the Crescent Principal Herald in November 1981, the heraldic title of El Munadi was assigned to him for his exclusive use and the title of Dolphin was assigned to the new chief deputy with its first holder being
Hrorek Halfdane of Faulconwood. In addition to other duties, Dolphin was the chief field herald in the Kingdom. Currently, this responsibility has now been
assigned to the [[Bellows]] Herald.


The heraldic title refers to the "totem animal" of the Kingdom, the heraldic dolphin. Master Hrorek's article on the history of Caid's heraldic titles tells us the title was created in May 1978. Therefore the heraldic title was derived from the Order of the [[Dolphin]], created in 1975.
The Dolphin Herald's duties, defined in kingdom law at the time, were to function in place of the Crescent Principal Herald in the latter's absence or disability as well as to serve as the voice of the Crown Heirs of Caid. Later, particularly between 2003 and 2010, Dolphin also was responsible in serving as the External Submissions Herald and would send letters of submission to the Society College of Arms after decisions were made by the Crescent Principal Herald.
