* It was always a pleasure to hear him Herald, especially at Great Western War.  His voice was so awesome and clear.  You could tell it was him from far away. I looked forward to hearing him herald at that war through Merchant's Row, usually smiling and helpful.  ~Baroness [[Asakura Machime]]

*About 40 years ago, [[Aldred von Lechsend aus Froschheim]] (my father) and Njall were in the same reserve unit, used to play D&D at our house, and a few years later joined the SCA together. Njall loved to point out that he had known me longer than I had been in the SCA, because as a two year-old, I used to sit on his lap while they played D&D. He was very much my uncle, and could be firecely loyal, yet harshly critical at the same time. I will always remember him telling me how proud he was of the adult that I had become, and how supportive he was when I found myself deserted and actively targeted by people who I had believed to be my friends. It meant a great deal to me, and when he passed away from a heart attack a few years ago, It was heartbreaking.  This weekend [23 December 2016], [[Ozmund Rus]] asked me to grab a specific Mjölnir (Thor's hammer) from his kit, because he had found the person to pass it onto. I was proud, because it was to my apprentice/protege [[William Ulfsson]], but I did not know the pendant had been given to him by Njall's widow until such time as he found someone worthy to wear it. I will shed more tears in remembrance of my uncle, but that his legacy has been passed onto the son of my heart also makes me happy. Requiescat in pace Uncle Njall, the circle has closed, and your honor is in the good hands of your grand nephew.  ~Mistress [[Aldgytha of Ashwood]]

Memories and Tributes

Please feel free to leave your memories of Njall.

  • He helped me buy my first heavy rapier, moments before my first Estrella tournament, and I will never look at a bell-guard again. He was one my first rapier teachers, or at least one of the first I listened to. If you ever found me competent with a cloak, he is mostly responsible for showing me how effective a secondary a piece of fabric can be. He also guided and assisted in the construction of Matilda. If I've ever shot you in a melee, Don Njall is partially responsible. Long Live the Gun Squad! ~THLady Mealla Caimbeul
