WAR IS COMING!!

The snows are melting in the mountain pass. The crops are planted. Our enemies are readying their swords and armor. You are itching to hit something (or someone). The time has come to pull your armor from the wagon and fix that strap that threatened to snap all last year. It's time to take your sword to the blacksmith and remove the rust and fix the handle.

IT IS TIME FOR MELEE!!!

Highlights

From Their Excellencies

In spite of some (wonderful) liquid California sunshine, Angels Melee was a day full of fighting, fun, art & sciences, shopping, and even more fighting. It was wonderful to see so many heavy weapon and rapier fighters--and even a few combat archers--take to the field in the first tourney of the new year. Everything ran extremely well, especially the amazing raffle!

Like so many others, this event would not have been possible without the work of many hands; therefore, we would like to thank the following people:

  • TRM Mansur and Eilidh for making the journey north from Calafia
  • Baroness Tezar of Aeolis and THL Tierrynna Caer Narvon, our Lists Mistresses stepped in at the 11th hour to help
  • Baron Timotheus Zacharia von Schloss Zwilling, our Exchequer and Gate Master
  • Dame Lynnette de Sandoval del Valle de los Unicornios, Raffle Wrangler Extraordinaire, and her Crew of "Lovely Vannas" (and special thanks for the Lady Muirenn ingen Ailella's generosity)
  • Baniarla Ciar Lasse MacGregor and Magister Riordan Robert MacGregor the RaffleMeister
  • Lord Lorenzo di Vita, Rapier Marshal
  • Lady Arianna Foxford, Minister of Arts & Sciences
  • Maestra Flavia Beatrice Carmigniani, Contest Organizer
  • THL Fu Ching Lan (in the guise of Lady Cordelia), Set (Site) Decoration
  • Lady Ysenda MacLaren of Perthshire, our busy Chatelaine
  • Baroness Morgaine FitzStephen, Merchant Wrangler, and of course, the merchants
  • Baron Jason Thomas the Wanderer, our Constable
  • Baron John ap Griffin and Don Lot Ramirez, our Heralds
  • Corvus Warband (Armored Combat) and the Fifth Brigade (Rapier), victors of the day
  • All of the marshals of the day
  • Everyone who helped with set-up and tear down of Edgar the Archer Memorial Arrow Trap And a special thank-you to everyone who braved the weather and helped make it such a wonderful day! (Even the Event Steward had a good time!!) Our apologies if we left someone off the list. Please know that we appreciate all of you! -- Peter and Gabrielle

    From the Crown Prints

The Barony of the Angels invites all fighters (and everyone else) to the first fighting event of 2015. Come join us on Saturday, January 10th for a day of heavy weapons, combat archery, and rapier war scenarios.

To allow time for as much combat as possible, Court will begin at 9:30 a.m. If you have business for court, please contact the Seraph Herald, Baron John ap Griffin, at the address below before the event or at least 30 minutes before court opens.

This year, the Barony will be using the "EDGAR THE ARCHER MEMORIAL ARROW TRAP," a fully-enclosed fighting eric that allows an archer to fire in 360 degrees. Yes that’s right, the 80x140 foot melee eric will be enclosed within an 8-foot tall archery netting eric that will allow combat archers to participate fully. With this in mind, most of the scenarios WILL ALLOW COMBAT ARCHERY!!!! SORRY, NO CROSS-BOWS ALLOWED--ONLY HAND BOWS!

Teams for the day will consist of any combination of eight (8) fighters/archers. If you are planning to marshal, please bring approved safety goggles, if you have them. (Some loaners will be available.)

RAPIER: The rapier community will also be running a variety of scenarios in their own 80x80 eric.

RAFFLE: Angels RAFFLE needs your STUFF! We are seeking donations for the Angels Melee!

    Raffle! Raffle! Raffle!!

Make your New Year’s resolution to treat yourself to an uncluttered house and let all the Stuff you’ve collected become someone else’s for a while. Individual items (jewelry, combat gear, books, embroidery kits, notecards, artwork, drinking glasses, soaps, etc.) are very welcome. Or make up a collection of even vaguely related items that we can put in a basket or box to raffle off as a group of goodies. Remember that the raffle can use anything. Even that holiday fruit cake that your family has been circulating for year!!!!!!

We’re also looking for baskets and boxes to use for grouping raffle items. Baron Timotheus and I will be available at Altavia’s Monday night fighter practices, and by appointment at Angel’s Tuesday night fighter practices. Or contact me at melee_raffle @s ca-angels dot org to arrange a pickup time and place. We look forward to seeing what you can come up with!

Thanks in advance! -- Dame Lynnette de Sandoval

ARTS AND SCIENCES: Angels Arts and Sciences also invites you to participate in an Illuminated Letter Contest. There will be prizes for Adult and Youth divisions. Bring your creativity and be prepared to show off your artistic skills.

All SCA rules for youth participation apply. Children under 12 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Merchants are welcome! Please contact to reserve space. All Merchants are required to pay the gate fee.

Please send requests for eric reservations (pavilion dimensions including ropes) to the Event Steward no later than January 1, 2015.
