On February 8, Sunday, the Barony of Gyldenholt will be hosting the Festival of Roses for Her Majesty Queen Larissa. Her Majesty has asked for a day of Italian Splendor.

Site: Rheinhardt Hall-Senior Multi-Service Center. The Site is DRY please abide by this.

Anyone wishing to perform must contact Lady Kireen Aelfwynn at least one week in advance.

We hope everyone will attend and have a good time.

Schedule

  • Hall opens 9:00 am
  • Court 10:00 am
  • Performances begin 10:30 am
  • Closing Court 3:30 pm

Closing Court will take place in the park adjoining the site. Those wishing to bring picnic lunches may use the park.

We will be having many on-the-spot contests, so be ready.

A $2.00 donation at the door, or a dessert to serve 8 is requested.

Arts Pentathlon Categories

Baking Sweets: Period ingredients should be used to create a result recognizable in period. A list of ingredients is required and recipes (both modern and period) are requested. Presentation is important.

Painting & Drawing: Modern material may be used to produce a period effect. The subject matter should be appropriate for a pre-1650 culture.(1)

Dramatic Interpretation: Performance of a scene of a play, a poem, or a song in a dramatic sense. The entry must be memorized. It must be in English understandable to the general populace. Time limit is (3) three minutes.

Vocal Performance: Performance of a period piece or a new composition in pre-1650 style. No groups. Time limit is (5) five minutes.

All entries or entrants must see the Arts Pentathlon Deputy NO later than 10:00 am.

In the case of the performing arts, the contestant must notify the Pentathlon Deputy at least one week prior to the event or the contestant will not be allowed toperform. There is no penalty for failure to appear per previous arrangement.

Notes
Debate went round and round as to whether the "official" end date for the SCA's historical period was 1600 or 1650. The current definition of the SCA is: "The Society for Creative Anachronism is an international organization dedicated to researching and re-creating the arts and skills of pre-17th-century Europe."
