The anniversary of Darachshire will be celebrated in a new location. Kingsmen Park at Cal Lutheran College will provide a quiet "dell"-like setting for our annual champion Tourney. The directions and map are below.
Set up will begin at 9 AM. Opening court is 10:30 AM. The days' events will center around who will be successor to Sir Jason as Champion of Darach. Holding to Darach's efforts to promote chess, all fighters in the lists must demonstrate a basic knowledge of modern chess rules and basic moves.
With Darachshire's anniversary occurring on the verge of spring, it is natural to use that as a theme for our celebration. Please keep that in mind when entering all contests:
- Hat and Headdress - sponsored by (it's a surprise)
- Spring Entertainment - (song, story, poem or play), sponsored by Elizabeth of Esvere
- Best Death
- Monster Sculpting - done at tourney site in provided clay, sponsored by Sieglinde von der Hohenwüste
- Best Dessert Bread - sponsored by Sienna of Glen Laurie
All contests have a 25-cent entry fee payable to the sponsor. A few on-the-spot contests might include a Shastan1 dance, a "springy" pun, and a chess contest.
In case of rain, an alternate event will be held at the site of last July's revel. Call Andregor or Sienna the night before if the weather looks questionable, and for directions in case of rain. Activities will take place indoors with gaming boards of various types. Dancing will also help us celebrate a wet spring tourney. In case of rain, please come anyway.
Revelers are asked to bring an extra sheet or blanket. Why, you may ask. "Beware the Ides of March." Maps to the revel will be handed out at the tourney. There will be plenty of mead and other drinkables, but please bring a potluck dish according to your last name: A-H (a main dish), I-P (fruit, vegetable or condiment), Q-Z (dessert or bread). Also bring your own plate and silver.
Celebrate Spring with Darachshire come Saturday, March 7 to Kingsmen Park.
