Sir Mons von Goarshausen. He was elevated to the Order of the Chivalry on November 16, 2002 by Guillaume II and Felinah II, King and Queen of Caid.
Sir Mons has been interested in historic clothing since he joined the SCA, and he has earned both a Harp Argent and a Lux Caidis for his clothing research and re-creation. He specializes in 14th through 16th Century European men’s clothing, though he has also dabbled in earlier eras, and has even made some ladies’ clothing. He enjoys visiting museums throughout the world, studying extant garments and also viewing artwork that depicts great clothes.
He also enjoys dabbling in various household arts, such as woodworking, leather work, painting, glass blowing, and cooking. His medieval wheelbarrow and handcart are among his favorite accessories, as are the scabbards he has created for various knives and swords in his collection.
He began learning the hurdy-gurdy around 2006, and started his Medieval and Renaissance focused band, Fire in the Pipkin, on Saturday, March 1, 2014, while he and some of his musically-talented Squires were visiting Estrella War together.
After being diagnosed with Stage IV cancer in 2017, Sir Mons became determined to learn to play bagpipes. He began with German great pipes, moved on to 16th Century Flemish pipes, and currently can be heard playing English border pipes…it’s quite possible bagpipes might have actually saved his life, but that’s a legend for another time!
Sir Mons is a member of The Company of Saint George, and for several decades, has been instrumental in running the Company’s annual Pas de Arms at Great Western War.
Retired from heavy weapons combat, Sir Mons continues his martial pursuits via archery, and he authorized for Rapier and Cut & Thrust fighting in 2022. He enjoys shooting Hungarian horse bow and English longbow.
