Crown Tourney page

the entry you just created needs to be for Spring Crown (not Winter). --Giles

  • Thank you for pointing that out, I just clicked on the entry already entered for that date and didn't realize it had been entered that way. Please feel free to correct anything you ever see that is incorrect. --Valdis 15:56, 28 February 2011 (PST)
    • Apparantly, back in 2009, the wiki began referring to Crown Tourney in March as Winter Crown, I'm assuming the logic was to distinguish the March Winter Crown as being the opposite of the August Summer Crown, whereas Spring would be the opposite of Fall - both of which would fall on the 21st of March and August. This occurred when the dates for both Crowns were changed to earlier in the month.--Valdis 16:13, 28 February 2011 (PST)

Wiki Editors

A year ago Kolfinna sent a yearly post to all of the editors asking if they would like to continue in their roles as editors, saying that "The editor position on the wiki requires a bit more responsibility than the regular user". I am continuing that tradition and am asking those in the Editor List if they wish to continue in that role, or begin working in that capacity (there are a couple of you on the Editor list who are not on the Editor staff). Anyone currently in the Editor member list but are not on the Help:Team team may become a member of the Editor Team, just let me know you would like to work in that capacity. Also let me know if you would like to become a member of the Commenter group, you will still be able to edit pages on the wiki as a commenter you just will not have the responsibilities of an Editor.

For those who wish to remain as wiki Editors:

1. Please send me your email address - either add it to your preferences (where it will remain private), or send to me at wiki@caid-commons.org.

2. Add a note to your User Talk page (in response to this message) that you would like to continue or begin working as an editor or become a commenter.

3. Let me know if you believe your work with the wiki encompasses more that the area(s) you are currently allocated and let me know what areas you feel you can monitor/survey. Check the Help:Team page for the current list of Editors and the areas allocated to everyone. --Valdis 02:15, 25 August 2010 (PDT)

Welcome Valdis!

Please join me in congratulating Valdis Isbrandsdottir (talk) as she steps in as Administrator of Compendium Caidis.

Valdis has been active on this site since June 2008. Particularly, she has spent a great deal of time working on the colossal Populace Category, reformatting the populace pages in the formative days of the site, proofreading and fixing name spelling errors and formatting errors, adding offices and personal blazons, assisting with the sub-categorization of the category, etc.

I have great faith that she will serve the community well in her new capacity, adding fresh enthusiasm and finding new ways to make the site better for the users. That said, I'm sure she will need help handling the ever-increasing workload of Administrator. Please lend her your support as your time permits, either by offering to help with special projects, or by doing general editing as needed.

Twice it has been my honor and joy to serve the Caidan populace in this office. I thank you all. I am proud of the work I've done here, and look forward to continuing to "tinker" as an Editor.--Lachlan 21:46, 13 August 2010 (PDT)

To the Editors

As Lachlan said, I have been with the wiki since June of 2008. During that time I have come to appreciate and value all of the work that has gone into the establishment and continued growth of the wiki, not only as a source of information for our Kingdom, but also as a legacy of someone we all hold dear to our hearts. Both Kolfinna and Lachlan put so much of themselves into the Compendium Caidis that they inspired others to continue those efforts, as they have inspired the editors and myself, as well as all of the users of this wiki. My primary goal as admin is to continue and nurture the work they began; and also to fulfill the purpose of the wiki which is to create a source of knowledge gained from life in Caid and the SCA.

I would like to sincerely thank Lachlan for his faith and confidence in my abilities to serve as the wiki administrator. I would also like to thank Lachlan and all of you for continuing to serve as editors. --Valdis 18:26, 14 August 2010 (PDT)

Image Use on the Wiki

The Society webminister has instructed us to begin collecting releases before uploading/publishing new images on this site. To help facilitate this, the users authorized to upload files has been restricted to Editors and Administrators, specifically excluding Commenters. Anyone may submit files for inclusion via the Media Submission Form.

While free to upload files, you, the editors, will still have to collect releases and forward them to the Administrator. We are permitted to accept electronic releases via email. The release may read:

I, [Modern Name] ([SCA Name]) authorize the use of the following media files to be used within the pages of the Compendium Caidis (AKA Caid Wiki):

  • [List of filenames]

This step is not necessary in cases where the Administrator already has a release for the submitted files. Examples include:

  • Images already published on www.sca-caid.org may be used here without additional releases. This includes the Caid Roll of Arms. Please try and provide credit on the file's "File:" page, if known.
  • Any file from the sites listed under "Full Use" at Help: Media may be uploaded without additional release. When using these sites, please include the artist/photographer credit on the image's "File:" page. You may include the source URL which would help us if we later need to find the release for a specific file.
  • Any file submitted via Persona Submission Form or Media Submission Form has a release attached that is sent to the Administrator.

This change does not in any way change permissions to add or edit text, links, etc.

Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. As this will surely increase my own workload, I expect I will be seeking specific help in this area in the near future.--Lachlan 21:31, 26 July 2010 (PDT)

Input requested

This message is going to all editors. I am gathering input on a proposed change to site rules. Please see: Help talk:Rules.--Lachlan 21:58, 16 November 2009 (PST)

Wiki Editor

Greetings. This is a blanket note being sent to all the Editors of the CaidWiki. It has been approximately a year since most of you have held this position. The editor position on the wiki requires a bit more responsibility than the regular user, as you are a go to resource for people needing help and are a reviewer for the areas allocated to you (as shown on the Help:Team). If you'd like to remain as an editor for another year, please reply to this message. If you'd like to become a regular user (no responsibility, but still have the ability to edit anything any time), please reply to this message. If you have any questions feel free to contact me. Thanks! --Kolfinna 11:25, 7 August 2009 (PDT)

  • I would like to continue as editor if you'll still have me. --Valdis 02:08, 8 August 2009 (PDT)
    • Sure thing. Thanks for your service. --Kolfinna 08:31, 8 August 2009 (PDT)

Scroll Stuff

Thanks for the heads-up on Arianna's scrolls. I'll fix it as soon as I get a chance. By the way, if you change the spelling of a scroll recipient on a scribe's page, it would help to also change the name on the image file. Thanks for your help!  :) Aliskye 10:39, 5 January 2010 (PST)

James Nitefall / James Toirdhealback

From Farlin: here is James "doc" Nitefall's wiki page. He already has one. http://wiki.caid-commons.org/index.php/James_Toirdhealbach

  • Thank you Farlin for alerting us. When creating new populace pages, the procedure we follow is to check (in this order) 1. if the name is registered 2. names listed on the Order of Precedence. After checking both sources only James Nitefall was found on the Caid's Order of Precedence. I will be moving content over to James Nitefall's page but will put a redirect from the James Toirdhealbach page so that any articles that reference that name will be redirected to the correct page. If the preferred names becomes registered please notify us so we can reverse the redirect. --Valdis 16:26, 28 March 2011 (PDT)

How to Redirect Pages

Once you verify the correct name/spelling of a populace page, you can redirect the old page to the new page by using the command with a link to the new page,

it should appear as #REDIRECT Gerhard von Regensburg

(click the edit area for this page to see the full command in this area, use what is inside the quotation marks, do not include the quotation marks)

Put that code on the old page (for instance it would go on the page for Gerhard of Nordvald, but make sure information from the old page is copied and pasted onto the new page before deleting the information from the old page. The only thing remaining on the old page should be the redirect command and link to the new page. I'll let you do this last one so you can see how it's done.

Also, make sure that on the new page you list the previous name in the bio part of the new page, so please add the name Gerhard of Nordvald to his new page.

Redirecting pages

I hope that I did it right on Gerhard von Regensburg/Gerhard of Norvald; could you check me? Thanks! --Dubhghall mac Aodha 23:27, 13 April 2011 (PDT)

    • Good job on the redirect Dubhghall! Make sure you add his previous name to the new page.. for instance, in the section just below the template code (the bio section) you can add the following...

Gerhard von Regensburg‎, previously known as Gerhard of Nordvald. (or also known as etc...)

Names

Balthazar is a member of Griffin Freehold. This morning, he asked me to go through Griffin Freehold's member list, to find out who has registered names and armory, and who does not. The notes on the pages are mainly making a record so that he and I know who needs to be contacted to get names and/or armory registered, not to mark pages for deletion or anything like that. Since my main project on the Wiki is to make sure that pages have armory on them, I need to make note of who doesn't have any registered yet. This way, those who don't will know whom they can contact to get names and armory registered - Balthazar for names, and me for devices. --Dubhghall mac Aodha 10:51, 18 April 2011 (PDT)

    • replying on your page --Valdis 10:55, 18 April 2011 (PDT)

Replying back: The other thing is that Balthazar has sent out an email to his Freehold's list and for the Fifth Brigade saying "Go check your Wiki page and see if you need to fix/register anything." This will let each person who needs to register names and/or devices know that they need to, when they look at their page and see a Talk entry. That was our other reason for doing it this way with these two groups. However, if I'm doing this for general populace pages that aren't involved with the Freehold or the Fifth Brigade, I will make notes on my own Talk page from now on. --Dubhghall mac Aodha 11:15, 18 April 2011 (PDT)

Ack! It looks like my Talk page disappeared when you changed my username :( --Dubhghall 22:11, 22 April 2011 (PDT)

... or not. That was really odd. It was gone and then it was back. Never mind! :P --Dubhghall 22:16, 22 April 2011 (PDT)

Contents?

Hi Valdis! When I look at Lorissa du Griffin's page, there is a "Contents" box in the first section, but I can't find the code for that. Can you help? I would like to start adding it to pages that I edit; it looks really helpful. --Dubhghall mac Aodha 11:36, 19 April 2011 (PDT)

Hákon olfúss Stígsson

I don't know if you knew, but Hakon and his wife Zhelana just moved back to Meridies this week. I saw that you just created or updated a page for him, and wanted to let you know why I'd be changing it. --Dubhghall 10:00, 24 April 2011 (PDT)

Upload boilerplate is cutting off

Hi Valdis,

When I paste the media-release boilerplate into the comments for the change to a populace page, it always cuts off around "release not required" for stuff from the RoA. Is this a problem as long as the full text of the boilerplate is pasted on the actual file? Thanks! --Dubhghall 00:06, 21 May 2011 (PDT)

To the Upload Editors

Caid Roll of Arms

Some of the Devices on the Caid Roll of Arms have mistakes. During the upcoming year (or longer), one of the primary artists of the RoA, Damian von Baden will be correcting the mistakes, meanwhile, please refrain from transferring the RoA heraldic images over to the Wiki unless you know for certain that the image has been corrected. If anyone would like to volunteer to correct the images already on the Wiki that are among those that have been corrected, please contact me for a list. Wiki Administrator at wiki@caid-commons.org

Photographer/Artist blanket releases?

  • Do we have any kind of list of people who have given us blanket releases for use of their work on the Wiki? That would really help with adding, for example, images of people at events, if we could look up the photographer and see that he or she has already given a blanket media release for the Wiki. Any ideas?
