From the Crown Prints

On Saturday, 8 March XIV an unbelted men-at-arms tournament will be held at Mile Square Park in the Barony of Gyldenholt. Sir Heinrich Palantine's first idea was to have the unbelted fighters ask the Knights throughout the Kingdom of Caid to sponsor them in this event. After sponsorship was accepted the unbelted combatant would practice and learn only from his sponsor. Events were set up so that the sponsor and the unbelted fighter would then be able to fight side by side. However, with time as limited as it is, it has been decided to have an unbelted Prize Tourney instead.

Schedule

  • 8:00 Pitch thy pavilions
  • 10:00 Opening Court
  • 11:30 Lists begin
  • 1:00 Dinner
  • 2:00 Lists resume and arts contests begin
  • 4:00 Closing Court

All combatants wishing to take part in the Lists MUST sign up for three of the events listed below. The prizes will be awarded on a point system. Points will be awarded to the three finalists in each event. The point value of reach event is listed at the left side of the event's title.

  • 5-4-3 Broadsword and Shield
  • 5-4-3 Mace or Axe and Shield
  • 7-6-5 Polearm
  • 7-6-5 Short or Dagger and Buckler
  • 9-8-7 Off-hand fighting
  • 9-8-7 Double Weapon

The prize for the unbelted Champion is a Great Helm. The price for the most Chivalrous combatant is a Tourney Chest. The prize for the best death is a coffin containing a bottle of Old Bushmills. (Keep the bottle but the coffin is to be returned in good and like condition, to be passed on in a subsequent tourney.) Second prize for the Lists will be a basket hilt and sword blank.

There will also be 4-man melees; the winning team will receive a case of Henry Weinhard's Private Reserve. The losing teams will receive 1 or 2 cases (depending on the number of teams) of Old Milwaukee.

ARTS COMPETITIONS (all prizes TBA)

  • Best poem about an unbelted man-at-arms
  • Best illuminated and calligraphed combatant's name (names to be assigned and fighters to receive entries at tourney)
  • Best rendering of a fighting song, or song about a fighter
  • Best original favor to a man-at-arms (not to have been entered in any previous contest)
  • Best original limerick

Just because the Lists are restricted to unbelted combatants doe snot mean that the Knights should not be in attendance. There will be challenge matches and melees to fingt in; also, with all the unbelteds fighting, who is going to marshal? Come on out and lend your support, WE NEED YOU!
