Master Colwyn's Elevation Doublet
While living in Drachenwald, Don Colwyn was offered the accolade of Master of Defense. I knew that I wanted to make something particularly spectacular so I decided to make a completely pinked doublet for him. I utilized his existing pattern which we knew would fit him since there was no way for me to do even one fitting before the elevation.
- First was experimentation with using Gum Arabic as an edging sealing solution for the pinked edges as suggested in period documentation. Different concentrations of painting supply Gum Arabic (which is 1 part Gum Arabic to 4 parts water were attempted); 75% Gum Arabic solution to water gave the best binding results while impacting the color and stiffness of the fabric the least.
- Treating the individual doublet pieces with the Gum Arabic solution.
- Pinking each piece with the pattern I had created based on an extent doublet
- Final assembly
