This event was long remembered for the excellent feast of roast pig, and that such a small group as the Barony of the Isles (perhaps ten people strong) could feed and entertain over 200 attendees in style.

Caid's 12th Night Banquet & Revels will be held in the Barony of the Isles next Jan. with very little time for getting the hall rental $$ together before deadline time. It may seem very early for all this but consider that SCA events are a HOBBY, after all; most of us can only handle SCA details on weekends & occasional odd hours during a usually busy work-week. So there are actually VERY few "working" hours between now and the time Isles has to complete arrangements for 12th Night.

Therefore, the deadline to get at least $1.00 per person to reserve a spot at the banquet is at the Coronet Tourney in Sept. (or mail it to either Martin the Temperate or Lady Jessica Llyrindi of Northmarch - see addresses in PEOPLE TO CONTACT column before Sept. 13, 1975. DON'T PROCRASTINATE!

Total fee for the banquet is $5.00 per person (which Isles would be quite happy to accept in advance) with the $1.00 being a non-refundable default for "no-shows". The high rental fee on the hall is one of the reasons for the early reservation demands. There is a possibility that Isles can obtain another hall for a better fee, and if so, the 12th Night Revels will be moved to Jan. 17, 1976. More info on this later.

MEANWHILE, make your reservations early; don't regret "meaning to do it".

There will be a contest for the best pair of male & female costumes of the same country & period, shown at Southern 12th Night, to be judged by the Cantons of Lyonesse & Failte. Suitable prizes will be awarded.

SOUTHERN 12TH NIGHT will be held in the Barony of the Isles (Santa Barbara area) on Jan. 17, 1976. AND MORE 12TH NIGHT INFO. . . If you have something to offer for entertainment at Southern 12th Night, contact Martin the Temperate as soon as possible. Let him know in detail what you want to do, & especially how long the entertainment is to last (working out a time schedule is very important). Do NOT plan to arrive on 12th Night with this nifty act. . .

SOUTHERN 12TH NIGHT COSTUME CONTEST The Cantons of Lyonesse & Failte are offering prizes for the best pair of male & female costumes; same country, same era or period of time, shown at the 12th Night Revels. A statement of intent to enter the contest is due by Oct. 1, to Lady Gabrielle nicChlurain (details omitted). NO SINGLE COSTUMES: MATCHED MALE & FEMALE PAIRS ONLY.

DOLL CONTEST FOR 12TH NIGHT Open to all SCA people, the doll contest rules were in the July issue of THE CROWN PRINTS (25 cents each) or ask Mistress Tyra Stuart of Moray about details (details omitted).

A statement of intent to enter the contest is necessary, due to the failure of previous contests: a lot of work & planning goes into these projects, so people would like to hear from YOU if you're really interested in them. Deadline for this statement is Oct. 4 (at the Angels Anniversary Tourney). If Mistress Tyra does not have at least five such statements by then, the contest will be called off. Please help support the Arts!

TWELFTH NIGHT COSTUMES Mistress Tyra is available for consultation & will cheerfully aid you in any problems with selecting & putting together a 12th Night outfit. (Sorry, but she cannot sew the costumes for you--deadlines on a book & construction of her own & her Lord's costumes prevent this.) There are patterns available from Golden Key for a nominal rental fee (and a pound of flesh if they are returned in poor shape!) Pattern lists--modern patterns which can be purchase & made over for costumes--are available from the Costume Guild & notebooks, costume books & other designs which can be perused at House Merriment (phone first--sorry, no books loaned out to anyone.) If you wish to receive your 12th night tickets in advance in the mails please send a SASE to Martin the Temperate. Otherwise we will get your tickets to you at various tournaments and if we don't see you Good Luck!

The following items are things that would help facilitate serving at 12th night which we don't have and will have to purchase out of 12th night funds if they can't be found. Things are needed in large numbers and would hopefully be uniform in shape and size: Serving bowls, Pitchers, Ladles, Serving spoons, Large cooking pats.

Please bring your own trenchers, goblets, bowls, utensils etc. A sharp knife or dagger would be especially needed.

Deadline for paying total 12th Night reservation is December 15. Please send a S.A.S.E. with your payment and 12th night tickets will be sent out by return mail. Mail payments to Martin the Temperate (details omitted)

Progress Report for Southern Twelfth Night

If you have paid for tickets and have not received them before the 17th of January, it will be for one of the reasons given below:

• (1) they were delivered to you in person
• (2) they are still in the mail
• (3) they were not sent (and won't be, if you did not send in a SASE)

In any case, do not fear, for we will have a master list by name and ticket number, and will be checking them off at the door.

Please remember to bring dishes--plates, bowls, goblets, etc.--and utensils (a sharp eating knife will be most useful) as they WILL NOT BE PROVIDED. If necessary, get paper or plastic.

Remember than 100 lb. pig? It now weighs approximately 200 lbs. We have only an approximation because even the bravest member of Isles will no longer get any nearer this beastie than absolutely necessary. There is still some time to go in the fattening-up process, but the "good life in Isles" is about to end for ye Pigge.

Entertainment: Contact Christina Jehanne de Bruges. Tell her in detail what you want to do, how long it takes, whether you need music, etc., to go with it (or are bringing your own). A time-schedule is absolutely necessary: do NOT plan to do your thing at the 12th Night banquet without advance notice! Also, if your music is on tape, get it to Amadea WELL BEFORE 12th Night so that she can get it put on the kind of tape the owners of the equipment will use. They have very expensive gear, and use expensive tape with it: they have kindly offered to use some of their own tapes for our music, to be wiped later, but they will not use cheap tape in their machines.

REPORT ON THE PIG'S PROGRESS

A 100 pound pig was purchased by Isles on Oct. 1--he is to be raised to appx. 280 pounds by 12th Night & provide a lot of good eating. He is being carefully cared for by David the Ironlivered & eating rations of pig chow, table scraps & grocery store vegetable cuttings. Needless to say the pig is enjoying The Good Life in Isles (at least while he lasts)!

We wish to extend a heartfelt and sincere thank you to the People of the Barony of the Isles for a most enjoyable Twelfth Night.

The food was very good, the entertainment amusing, and the hall excellent. Since the weather was in the hands of the fates, we give our hank you's elsewhere for that. We were most impressed by the hardworking people of the Isles.

We would, in particular, like to thank Baroness Jessica Llyrindi of Northmarch for the beautiful example of courtesy which she displayed at the recent event. Truly, she is a gentlewoman, in all sense of the word, and she has set a model for the rest of us to emulate.

We once again say, "Thank you for Twelfth Night."
