*Viscountess [[Lorissa du Griffin]] reigned as the seventh Princess of the Principality of Caid, as the consort of Count [[Balin of Tor]] from June, 1977 - November, 1977. This reign was notable, and exceptional, as the then-Princess was only 10 years old, the youngest lady to ever sit upon the throne in the SCA. The fact that the Princess was a minor created some rather unanticipated complications. Having not yet reached the age of consent in the mundane world, real-life legal issues became evident - the Princess couldn't even sign many of the documents that were required of the Crown, and had to rely on the adults around her to act as regents on her behalf. More importantly, however, as history (and literary device :) ) reminds us.."Heavy is the head that wears the Crown" ; the stresses of such a weight of responsibility upon one so young became a very real concern.More importantly, however, the stresses of such responsibility upon one so young became a very real concern. As a result of Viscountess Lorissa's reign, a group of Caidians, led by Viscountess Lorissa's parents themselves, successfully petitioned the SCA Board of Directors to change Corpora Law to include a clause that established a minimum age for competitors, and consorts in Crown Tournaments. Long has the populace of Caid known the treasure that Viscountess Lorissa has been for the many years she has graced us with her presence*- her many contributions to our fair Kingdom are too great to number, and have greatly enriched our realm in ways as many as the stars; however, one of her greatest accomplishments, though perhaps an unintentional one, has been to affect positive change in our Society overall as the inspiration for the addition of a minimum age to sit upon the throne.
