The snows are melting in the mountain pass. The crops are planted. Our enemies are readying their swords and armor. You are itching to hit something (or someone). The time has come to pull your armor from the wagon and fix that strap that threatened to snap all last year. Its time to take your sword to the blacksmith and remove the rust and fix the handle. | |||
IT IS TIME FOR MELEE!!! | |||
The Barony of the Angels invites all fighters (and everyone else) to the first fighting event of 2013. Come join us on January 12th for a day of heavy weapons and rapier war scenarios. | |||
To allow time for as much combat as possible, Court will start at 9:30 a.m.. Please contact Baron John if you have business with the court before the event or at least 30 minutes before the court opens. | |||
This year the barony will be initiating the “EDGAR THE ARCHER MEMORIAL ARROW TRAP.“ A fully enclosed fighting eric that allows an archer to fire in 360 degrees. Yes that’s right, the 80x80ft melee eric will be enclosed within a 100x100ft archery netting eric that will allow combat archers to fully participate. With this in mind half the SCENARIOS WILL ALLOW COMBAT ARCHERY!!!! | |||
On this day Armored Combat will consist of 10 man teams with an optional 11th member who can only be an archer. So Archers should show up early to have your equipment checked. It is also anticipated, that the Barony’s new digital/precision Bow Scale with be making its maiden appearance, so check your draw weights before arriving so you may pass inspection without incident. | |||
With archery present in half of the scenarios we ask all Marshals bring SCA-approved safety goggles! | |||
The scenarios will start with a 10 man close quarters “Bear Pit” as a warm up. Then will move to other scenarios till the closing of fighting sometime between 3:30 -4:00 p.m. | |||

An Angels’ Raffle is planned. If you would like to contribute goods for the raffle, please bring completed baskets or items to the event or contact the event steward. | |||
ARTS AND SCIENCES: | |||
Angels Arts and Sciences also invites you to participate in the Illuminated Letter Contest. There will be prizes for adult and youth divisions. Bring your creativity and be prepared to show off your artistic skills. | |||
All SCA rules for youth participation apply. Children under 12 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. | |||
Merchants are welcome! Please contact angelsmelee@sca-angels.org to reserve your space. All Merchants are required to pay the gate fee and remember that 10% of your gross profit must be given to the County of Los Angeles. | |||

In spite of the very, very cold weather (33 degrees at 7:30 a.m. and 37 degrees at 4:30 p.m.), it was a beautiful day for Angels' Melee 2013 - bright, blue sky, lots of sunshine and no rain! We had a wonderful day and would like to take this time to say "Thank You" to everyone who was a part of yesterday's planning and festivities:
