Memories

Eowyn Amberdrake writes:

I Had a blast at Collegium this last weekend. I Learned how to draft a sleeve for my Elizabethan from the talented Lady Joan Silvertoppe. I have drafted the pattern, added seam allowance, and found a trial fabric in my stash. Next step - cut it out and put it together to see if it really does work. This was the class I really wanted to take.

I also learned how easy intaglio can be. I carved a stone bead with a dragon that can be used with wax as a seal, a new rock crystal Pel-Laurel medallion, a laurel wreath into a green stone bead, and my arms carved in glass. THL Rekon rocked as a teacher! This was the class I lucked into choosing.

I was late to Mistress Brianna Je Nell's body mapping class (I found it hard to leave that intaglio class), but am finding her methods for drafting patterns clearly noted in her handout - lots of pictures make it easy to follow - and caught enough to see the method. Thank you!

The photography in the SCA class was well-put-together. I didn't know what to expect, but was pleased at the emphasis on the SCA rules, and discussion of photography etiquette within a Society for which the activity is out-of-period, while acknowledging that we all live within a larger society in which it is ubiquitous. And we all know that Hollywood, and its photographed depiction of medieval recreations, shapes participants' expectations. Thank you to Lady Cecilia Dysney and Lord Jonathan Levy for a thoughtful presentation!

Also enjoyed the stories of Vikings and their deeds in the History class from His Excellency Balin of Tor. That was just plain fun.
