Tournament of St. Geronimus and Celebration of Spring
April 11, 2009
Whan that aprill with his shoures soote The droghte of march hath perced to the roote… Thanne longen folk to goon on pilgrimages,…To Dreiburgen
That’s right, DreiburgenRRE is hosting a Spring Tournament, and as we make our pilgrimage for our barony’s patron saint Saint Geronimus we will also be celebrating that most medieval of writers, Geoffrey Chaucer. Brush up on your Canterbury Tales, your “No Kidding” stories, your Chaucerian Rondels, and your silly filks. Be ready to bring them all to Hunt Park (4015 Jackson Street, Riverside, CA 92503) in DreiburgenRRE for a lovely day.
For fighters (armored and rapier), there will be traditional double elimination tourney with the following twist: if you tell a tale to our designated audience, you will receive a token for one extra life.
For those whose thrills are found outside the field of combat, there will also be several activities and competitions, including:
- A story telling competition (period and non, original or otherwise)
- An art competition for best representation of a pilgrim’s badge (in any form – bonus *points for documentation)
- Pilgrim’s Scavenger Hunt
- Medieval pilgrimage quiz
- Youth activities
The site opens at 10:00 am and closes at 6:00 pm. Unfortunately, we cannot have merchants in Hunt Park. The site is dry and non-smoking. It is handicapped accessible and pets are permitted.
