Gallavally Anniversary
April 28 2001
“Agricola Changes His Mind” It is in the first few centuries of the ‘original’ millennia, and Rome is having a terrible time keeping the subjects of Britannia in line. The Roman Dux Britanniarum, a General by name of Agricola, believes that if he can keep a garrison on the nearby island of Hibernia, the province of Britannia could finally be cost efficient. In history, Agricola abandons England and retreats to Rome, but what if he had decided to stay?
The event will be held at the lovely Lake Hemet Camp ground Elevation is at 4340 feet, so be sure to breath deeply!
There will be two standard double elimination style tournaments with a slight twist- you must choose to be either one of the Irish Fianna warriors or one of the Roman Legion. If Irish, you will fight with a center-grip round shield and a short sword. If you choose to be Roman, you will fight with a scutum-style shield and either a short sword or a 6-foot spear. The winner of the first tourney becomes the General of the Roman forces, and The winner of the second tourney the leader of the Irish defenders. Small unit melees will be fought for the rest of the day to determine who controls Hibernia.
There will be two arts competitions. The first is best use of anything Latin (style of dress, use of the language, etc.) to honor those pesky invaders from wat down south. The second is best use of Wode (the color blue) to honor those pesky invaders from up north (we all love Picts, right?). In addition, classes will be given throughout theday. If you are interested in teaching a class at this event, please contact the autocrat.
