Name Clarification

Just a quick note, we can't put real names on the web site unless that is their registered name, which I don't think is the case with Logan. Cheers --Kolfinna 22:30, 6 June 2008 (PDT)

I didn't even realize I had the last name when I copied and pasted that info - I deleted it, I hope, from the info I submitted. I'll go check it now. I also made sure my original page doesn't have the last name as well. Thank you for pointing this out to me!!! --Valdis 13:50, 7 June 2008 (PDT)

I just found out that Kol of Al-Sahid isn't the registered name. Kol goes by Kol Magnar so should we leave the page as is or not?--Valdis 14:42, 23 June 2008 (PDT)

ROA

If we get permission from the holders of the Devices can we use images from the Caid Roll of Arms http://roa.sca-caid.org/ --Valdis 03:26, 18 June 2008 (PDT)

  • Actually it would be the permission of the person who runs the ROA site. Lachlann might know about that. --Kolfinna 10:50, 18 June 2008 (PDT)
  • Giving a thoughtful "Hmm..." The Caid Roll does specify, "Copyright to the scanned drawings remains with the original illustrators. If you wish to download/save any device on this roll that is not registered to you, you must obtain the permission from the person to whom the device is registered." Those two statements contradict each other. The former statement more clearly reflects the law. The second really doesn't make any sense. The registrant of the armory has (presumed) copyright over their original artwork, but that artwork is not on the Caid Roll. Therefore, they should have no say over who can and cannot use the Caid Roll image of their arms. I'll have to discuss it on this end. --Lachlan 11:04, 18 June 2008 (PDT)

Discussion

not sure whether I should be posting under My Talk or the Discussion tab for the page I am referring to whenever I comment on so please let me know which one I should post to. --Valdis 19:10, 19 June 2008 (PDT)

I check all information submitted to this site, so I will catch it where ever you post. However if you want the wiki to send an email to the user you have to post replies on their page. That's probably the best method to do things. If you are commenting about a specific article, you should comment on that discussion page. --Kolfinna 23:28, 19 June 2008 (PDT)

Bard of Caid

On the Circle of Bards page there is a section that says "The position of Bard of Caid shall carry a 1 year commitment that includes three required Kingdom Events (Twelfth Night, Great Western War, and the competition for his/her successor). These events are fluid: The King & Queen will decide, based on the Bard of Caid’s schedule, which kingdom events are mandatory performance events. "

This description is a tad unclear to me so I wondered if this could be slightly altered. This rule states that the Bard of Caid must commit to 3 required Kingdom Events and lists the actual events but then goes on to say that the King and Queen will decide which Kingdom events are mandatory. Does this contradict the first part of the rule? Is it referring to the competition event only? or are these Kingdom Events that the King and Queen stipulate ones that are in addition to the 3 specified events?

This might actually be the rules that are written and approved by a Crown. I'll have to ask Eilidh for clarification since she's bard of Caid right now. --Kolfinna 23:28, 19 June 2008 (PDT)

The rules were typed in as written and published. I never really thought about whether they made sense. I believe that the point is "which events are mandatory performances" is a sub-set of "which events the Bard should attend" ... so that the King and Queen can make "command performance requests" of the Bard, but that the Bard should *BE* at 12th Night, GWW, and the competition for successor. When the rules were first written, the competition wasn't during 12th Night, it was during Highland War. --Eilidh Swann 19:38, 20 June 2008 (PDT)

Pentathlon

There's two seperate (two that I know of so far) Pentathlon pages. They are the Arts and Sciences Pentathlon Champion at Arts and Sciences Pentathlon Champion and Results Pentathlon These are essentially for the same information could we redirect or remove one of the pages? Or do these need to remain seperate pages?

They are actually seperate pages. Arts and Sciences Pentathlon Champion is an award listing, and explains what the award is. Results Pentathlon is part of the Results template, which is designed to record winners since 1974. I linked the two to each other. There will be overlap, but probably for the best. The Results section will often come into conflict with other sections (especially events) --Kolfinna 23:28, 19 June 2008 (PDT)

Meridies

I added information on the Meridies page. Not sure how much info to include on a Kingdom page so not sure whether it's still a stub or not, let me know if I need to put the stub code back in.--Valdis 22:42, 19 June 2008 (PDT)

Once you add info, feel free to remove stub code. --Kolfinna 23:28, 19 June 2008 (PDT)

On just a couple of pages I added quick links (or whatever they are called) to the Kingdom pages. For instance Meridies etc. If you don't want those there please let me know and I'll go remove them from the pages I put them on. If you want me to go through other pages and add those links let me know. I happened to do those because I did a search on Meridies and I wanted to link those pages back to the Meridies Kingdom page and while I was at it I saw other Kingdoms on those pages and thought I'd change those as well so it would remain fairly uniform. Now I'm wondering if I did a bad thing by doing that since that wasn't already done. So, let me know if I need to take them away or go through and add the links on other pages. --Valdis 23:05, 19 June 2008 (PDT)

Seems fine to me. --Kolfinna 23:28, 19 June 2008 (PDT)

Okay - so unless there's an objection I'll add links to other pages. --Valdis 23:41, 19 June 2008 (PDT)

None here --Kolfinna 23:57, 19 June 2008 (PDT)

Deleting

How do you delete a page? In particular Potrero May, I changed it to Potrero War and linked both Potrero May and Potrero September to new page Potrero War so don't need the Potrero May page. --Valdis 00:52, 20 June 2008 (PDT)

I think there might be user permission issues with deleting. I've asked Lorenz to take a look at it. --Kolfinna 11:50, 20 June 2008 (PDT)

Lorenz just informed me that he updated the user's permissions. You should see along the top a tab for move and delete now. Please test and let me know if it is working. --Kolfinna 11:51, 20 June 2008 (PDT)

I see the move tab but not a delete tab. --Valdis 14:12, 20 June 2008 (PDT)

Oops. Fumble-fingered a cut and paste before. Please try again. --Lorenz 14:45, 20 June 2008 (PDT)

It works, Thank you! Now let's see what trouble I can get into (grin) --Valdis 14:50, 20 June 2008 (PDT)

Territory Information

I noticed that Darach has a section for entering the Shire's officers so I'm wondering if I should do the same for Al-Sahid. I haven't noticed that on other shire pages though so I thought I'd ask before making the addition. --Valdis 02:44, 20 June 2008 (PDT)

All information is good information. If the section gets to big, I'll relocate it to al-sahid officers or something like that. The more information the better. --Kolfinna 11:50, 20 June 2008 (PDT)

Policy for Children/Minors

Is there a special policy in place for including populace pages on this wiki for children? Or a policy for including children/minors in any of the event (or any other) pages? --Valdis 16:42, 20 June 2008 (PDT)

I haven't been linking the minors, since most of them do not have unique names. Those that do, I have been linking. We SHOULD NOT put pictures up of the children with out their parent's express permission. --Kolfinna 16:56, 20 June 2008 (PDT)

Update to Template

Thanks to User:Iulianna we now have default holder pictures for the populace pages. Please use the new code for any new populace pages you make, and update old populace pages when you have the time. Get the code here: Template talk:Populace --Kolfinna 19:49, 20 June 2008 (PDT)

Miscellaneous

Ryan of Rickford is the Caid Deputy Earl Marshal for Thrown Weapons, should that link to a Marshal page for Thrown Weapons? Is that the same as Kingdom Thrown Weapons Marshal? Should I contact him to see if he has information for a Thrown Weapons article?

Yes, they are the same. Feel free to contact him? --Kolfinna 19:54, 22 June 2008 (PDT)

I sent email to Ryan but haven't heard back from him, will hopefully see him in person sunday. --Valdis 23:11, 24 June 2008 (PDT)

Update to Fix Page

Help:Fix is where I am storing all the things to do and what needs to be focused on. We all have our own pet projects, but if you could also keep an eye on this page, that would be helpful. I also have discussion items that I need your feedback on Help:Fix#Discussion_Items. Thanks! --Kolfinna 09:31, 23 June 2008 (PDT)

Hi! I notice you are adding information on Populace pages to point to the OP. That is a good and useful thing. However, the grammar of the line you are adding is imperfect -- I added an apostrophe and deleted an "s" from your standard line. Please look at it.--EowynA 07:32, 25 June 2008 (PDT)

I know, and that wording has bugged me as well. I had copied and pasted from a template someone else had written and thought the creator had a reason for that particular wording. --Valdis 20:27, 25 June 2008 (PDT)

Thank you! I'm looking over the pages and they are so much better!!! Believe it or not misspelled words and grammatical errors are a pet peeve of mine. Bless you!!! --Valdis 21:11, 25 June 2008 (PDT)

Update to Populace pages

  • Moved all the fix it notes to here Help:Fix#Populace_Pages.
  • The most important addition is the Help:Populace_Names which is a direct feed from the OP, so should have the proper spelling for the majority of Caidans. Thanks! --Kolfinna 11:11, 25 June 2008 (PDT)

That's because the Legio's Warband is called the Ninth Legion. --Kolfinna 18:29, 27 June 2008 (PDT)

Commentary Wanted

Change to how User Groups Work

Great news! The Kingdom Webwright has given us a 3 month window to test to see how it would work if all users had edit abilities. So all users have been added to the "Commenters" group which allows you to edit live pages and upload photos. Jump right in and start adding new pages and editing old ones! If you need help on how to edit the wiki, visit Help:Contents. If I don't know who you are (i.e. I need to match your SCA name to your wiki account) you will not be added to the commenters group. This is rare, only a few of you I haven't been able to place. Email me at wiki@caid-commons.org if you need further help. --Kolfinna 13:45, 20 August 2008 (PDT)

New Wiki Admin

Since I'm now Crown Princess, I will be turning over the admin reigns to THL Lachlan User_Talk:Lachlan. Please work with him from here on out. Thanks Lachlan! --Kolfinna 18:00, 24 August 2008 (PDT)

No need to add the OP link, I actively take it out on pages I work on. I figure it's pretty darned redundant. I would suggest working on other stuff. Help:Fix--Kolfinna 15:31, 19 September 2008 (PDT)

Sure thing. Was just trying to maintain the consistency since we've been putting that blurb on all of the populace pages. --Valdis 15:34, 19 September 2008 (PDT)

I'm working on adding populace pages and I noticed on other people's recent pages the stub command was used so I've been including it on the ones I've been adding. Are we supposed to include them on populace pages for everyone or was that just for special populace pages? I'm stopping for now till this is answered because I have a feeling I'm going to have to remove the stubs. --Valdis 17:00, 19 September 2008 (PDT)

  • the stub template just triggers the text that the page needs to be worked on. It's not required. The only required part of the populace pages is the populace template. --Kolfinna 22:05, 19 September 2008 (PDT)

OP

I figured out a way to include the blurb about the OP without having to manually include it on every page. I've made it a part of the populace template now. Don't worry about cleaning out the old links, but you don't need to put any new ones in now. Lemme know how you like it or not. --Kolfinna 13:57, 22 September 2008 (PDT)

  • You are brilliant! It looks fantastic and will definately be less time consuming. Thank you! --Valdis 12:30, 23 September 2008 (PDT)
