Persona

Rayhana is a 16th c. Greek woman living in the Ottoman Empire. The Ottoman empire spanned the Balkans (Rumelia, land of the Romans) at the time, though she now lives in Istanbul. She is the daughter of a Kodjabashi (local Christian notables in parts of Ottoman Greece who exercised considerable influence). Rayhana and her husband Suleiman are both nobles in the Ottoman court, where they both have become influential in court politics. She enjoys various artistic pursuits as fitting a lady of her time, and takes great care of her son Jude ibn Suleiman.
