The Canton of Novamarc is holding an arts & archery tourney on Feb. 7, 1976 (A.S. X) in the City of Claremont on the Pomona College campus. As we seem to be a de facto arts canton, this is the logical thing to do. There will be various on-the-spot contests, so bring your artistic supplies. There will be no crossbows allowed in the archery competition as we do not have the proper targets. Various plan-ahead competitions:
- (1) HOT BEVERAGES: alcoholic & non-alcoholic (February is a cold month at the beginning).
- (2) STITCHERY, ASSORTED: needlepoint, embroidery, crewel, what have you. It may be a current project or a recently completed one.
- (3) BEST COSTUME, MALE & FEMALE, OF THE DAY: if you're planning to wear something nice. . .
- (4) CHILDREN'S POETRY: we know that some of you under age 14 do write, so bring your best.
Other contests to be held during the day will be announced at opening court. As for LUNCH, bring thine own. As for DINNER, those of you staying for the evening activities may wish to join us at a local restaurant where we are reserving a room; to be announced at court.
EVENING ACTIVITIES: There will be a Bardic Revel in one room & dancing in another in the Pendleton Gym, which is next to the field where we will hold daytime activities. There are shower rooms for those who wish to change.
For dancing, it would be nice to have live music, but we plan to have recorded music on hand. Please contact Sine Singing Hands about performing for listening or dancing or any other aspect of musical entertainment for the evening.
Daytime activities will be held at Wig Beach (a beach in name only, being a large green field in back of Wig Dorm on the Pomona College campus). (Written directions provided and a hand-drawn map accompanied the notice)
Set-up will be at 9:30 AM. Opening Court at 10:30 AM. Events on the field will continue until about 3:30 PM. Closing Court will be at 4:00, with presentation of awards.
The evening revel begins at 8 PM. It is my belief that the College's policy is NO LIQUOR, but discrete & "orderly consumption of thine own might be permitted.
Since most of the original & still active members of Novamarc are seniors or juniors, we will be trying to promote the SCA on the campuses1, not that we are officially registered with them. Our dance class failed for lack of a qualified teacher who has enough time this year, so we've been rather quiet around here. We'd like to continue & not die out.
