I started in the SCA in Fall of 2013, but took a few years of downtime shortly thereafter. I resumed activity in 2016.
I reside in LA right now, but have also spent time in Gyldenholt, and practice in Calafia often.
I am a member of Corvus Warband, and have been with Corvus since 2017.
Persona
I chose the name Manus Cahan after some research into my family lineage. It is likely that my "Keane" heritage can be traced back to the Ulster region of Ireland.
The symbol of Ulster is the "red hand of Ulster." The current Keane coat of arms also features a white hand at the top, so I figured that would be part of my heraldry, and possibly my name given that Manus is "hand" in Latin.
There is also double meaning to this, as I am a very crafty, creative, and artistic person and I felt that symbol was a good representation of those talents, as well as being a strong battlefield symbol.
The last name "Cahan" is the olde version of my current last name - Keane.
The name Manus covers all periods and I currently don't have a set "persona" I play as. However, I lean heavily into the Anglo-Roman hybrid of Corvus.
Currently, I see and portray myself as a Romano-British / Celtic person serving in the Roman legions around 100AD. I have embraced the "civilization" that is Rome and the Imperial Roman way of life, battlefield tactics, armor, and equipment, however I do still keep a bit of the Anglo heritage represented with me.
I have the phrase: "Pro vivus occidere, pro mortuis occidere" written on the back of my war shield. This roughly translates to: "kill for the living, kill for the dead." Astute fans of Warhammer will recognize this as the battle motto of the Luna Wolves. This phrase stuck with me and is something I try and encapsulate on the battlefield. I fight to remember and honor those I have lost, such as my mother (2020), and I also fight for those friends and family that are still with me.
I pride myself on being a stout, reliable, and powerful frontline soldier on the Corvus shield wall as well as a smart tactical leader of the Corvus warband, should the need arise, or if I am put in a leadership position. I enjoy nothing more than being part of a powerful Corvus charge and smashing through the opposing lines and bringing death to our foes for the glory of Corvus and Caid!
