At the age of 18 Jethro became a Reisläufer in the mercenary band Todeskorps, where he quickly proved himself in combat.  He rose through the ranks rapidly, and was promoted to a Hauptman after the Battle of Nancy during which he showed great prowess and courage while fighting in the Gewalthut.
