FESTIVAL SATURNALIA in Altavia!
December 13, 2003

Rome during the days of winter solstice, there was a most joyous festival, called "The Best of Days" and Saturnalia! In the past, this festival lasted anywhere between three to five days filled of merriment, Lords of Misrule, and food! Young, old and everyone in between, come join the Barony of Altavia, Roman-style, and celebrate Saturnalia (and Yule) all together at Great Hall of Schuyler House at 14635 Titus Street in Panorama City (California).

We did say food, which means our usual potluck! The populace is encouraged to bring fine dining items that any noble roman would desire! If you need a gentle suggestion on what to bring from the gods (in this case event steward), here you go:

Last name starts with Potluck dish suggestion
A-E Dessert
F-J Main Dish
K-P Salads or Breads
Q-Z Side Dish

All potluck dishes must have an ingredient list in consideration for those with food allergies. If you would like to bring more than one item or a different dish, feel free to do so!

And what Saturnalia Festival would be complete without honoring the god of sowing (as in planting, not costuming, Caidains!)? There will be contests for finest festive roman garb (from early period all the way up to 12th century), best dish (food stuff) to lounge around and eat, and best ode written to Saturn! Small dolls, made of clay (sigillaria) were made and given to the children during this time - a contest for most creative doll that best represents Saturn will be judged. On top of all these contests, dancers and bards are welcome to come and show their gratitude to the god of harvest!

The doors open at 4:00 pm and close at 11:00 pm. Potluck starts at 6:00 pm. Site fee is $2 -- make checks payable to SCA, Inc / Altavia. Because of space, there will be no merchants at this event, but everyone is encouraged and welcome to come and join us in our celebration!

Address is: Schuyler House, 14635 Titus Street in Panorama City.

Autocrat: Lady Artemisia di Serena
