From the Crown Prints, April 1982
The Crown Prints Prize Tournament now has a list of contests which should appeal to everyone's talents. Here is what we have up to now:
EMBROIDERY: Limited ot the following types of embroidery:
- Cut and Drawn work
- Richielieu Work
- Vienetian Lace
- Trapunto
The work may be divided into work already completed (but must have been done within the last 6 months and not entered in any previous contest) or work done at the prize tourney. If there are enough entries, the contest will be divided into categories. The Prize will be announced at the tourney. The ENTRY FEE: $1.
MOST BEAUTIFUL FAVOR: Any medium accepted; both male and female cratspersons. Favour MUST be completed -- no "works-in-progress" please. Prize: a suitable apres-tourney restorative care package for you and your lord/lady. Sponsored by Baroness Natalya Gregorovna of Shadowhurst. ENTRY FEE $1. ENTRY FEE $1.

CHRONICLE AN EVENT: Chronicle an event past (very past) or present (recent past). Style can be prose or poetry. The chronicles may be used in a book on Caidan history. Sponsored by Robear du Bois. ENTRY FEE $.50
TOY MAKING: Period material must be used. Toy may be a creation of a medieval toy, or an originial toy in medieval style (any period). Toy will be judged on play-ability, lasting ability and beauty. Extra Points will be given for donating entry to the Arts Auction. Sponsor = Annaling Airimid the Healer and her children, Merlin the Falconer and Arwyne Althea. ENTRY FEE $.50
CROWN PRINTS COVER ART CONTEST: Results were so good from the last time this contest was run., let's try it again. Any media that will reproduce well on our press is alright. This is any media as long as the colors are black and white and of sufficient contrast. Pen and ink is great. Subject matter is up to the artist. Drawing inspiration from the Kingdom Calendar is not a bad idea. Sponsored by Amadea Da Drangonnessa. ENTRY FEE $.50
DANCE CONTEST: There will be two catagories: Tassel Kick Galliard and a Provocative Pavane. The first dance can be done as a single and the second is for flirting couples. Sponsor is [[Gwyllym y Friffn. Prizes: Tassel Kick = copy of Arbeau Orchesography; Provocative Pavana = a par of custom made velvet dancing slippers for lord and lady. ENTRY FEE $.50 for each entry
BEST RESTORATIVE HERB TEA: Hot or iced; a sample and a recipe are needed. The judge will look with favor upon documentation. Prize: Japanese tea cups. Sponsored by Baroness Natalya Gregorovna of Shadowhurst. ENTRY FEE $.50
SWEET BREAD CONTEST: Sponsored by the Canton of the Canyons. Prize: a copy of The Boke of Cookery (1580). ENTRY FEE $.50
HERALDRY CONTEST: Identification of this action term. Sponsored by Mistress Huette. ENTRY FEE $.50
KNOTTED THREAD: Any form of knotting thread into usable objects. Lace, crotchet, macrame etc. Sponsored by -Katerine Isabelle du Serpent. ENTRY FEE $1.
DRAW A BEAST FROM A TRAVELER'S DESCRIPTION: The written description was printed in the March CP. For an extra copy of the description, contact the autocrat. They will be available at the site also. Sponsored by Michael Maggotslayer. ENTRY FEE $.50. Prize: It's a secret but it is very unusual. One might even venture to say weird, demented and could only come from a mind half-crazed with obsession.
MUSIC MATCH: Matching song titles to composers. Sponsored by Amelianna die Wiess aus Sienna. ENTRY FEE $.50
BREAD DOUGH SCULPTING: FOR AGES (chronologically not mentally) 3-10. Bread dogh will be supplied. Sponsored by the CP. Prize donated by Katwen.
CONSTABLE BADGE EMBROIDERY: Supplies will be given out when you enter the contest. Work to be done on site. ENTRY FEE $.50. Sponstored by Balghton-Pleamud
CREATE A MYTH: Oral (20 min. Max), Written 4 p. Maximum. Style of prose is a major judging consideration. Sponsored by [[Branwyn fer Corran. Prize TBA
BEST DETAILED SCALE DRAWING OF A CATAPULT: Actually will be made into a real one. Must be an onager, 5 feet by 7 feet outside diameter. Sponsors: Viscount Sir Christian of Orange and James du Mer. There will be a $2 entry donation. Prize to be announced.
BOX LUNCH AUCTION - All gentlemen as well as ladies are encouraged to pack a lunch to share and enter it into the Action. As there are facilities to heat food at the site (the usual campground pits) the lunch may be warmed or may even turn into dinner if the lunch and buyer so wish it.
ARTS AUCTION - Although we have a number of marvelous items promised for the auction, there is always room for one more. Some of the items will be on display at April Crown Tourney. If you want to donate something, call the autocrat.
THE SITE - Will be the Veterans Memorial Park near Sylmar. Take the I-15 to 118 East to I-210. Exit on Hubbard, Turn Right; on Gladstone Turn Left; on Sayer Turn Right; proceed to the end of the street which becomes the entrance gate. SITE FEES - Camping reservations are $2/person (Two nights + day site fee included) or Day site fee (non-campers) is $1. Please make reservations for camping and checks payable to ... Sir Robear du Bois. THE GATE WILL BE LOCKED AT SUNSET, GATE GUARDS WILL BE ON HAND TO LET YOU THROUGH UNTIL 11pm. AFTER THAT, ENTRANCE MUST BE PRE-ARRANGED WITH SIR ROBEAR.
THE QUEST....... The quest will begin at 7pm on Saturday night. If you are planning to attend please be sure to bring a light source with you. There will be some light sources available at the site. Flashlights, oil lanterns and candles in lantern-like containers can be used but all sources must pass through the Portal to the Questing Lands and be inspected by the Minister of Lights before the Quest. There will be no fightig or chasing during the eveing part of the quest so there will be no need for anyone not to use a light to remain hiden better. The fighting part of the Quest will take part during the Lists of the day. At the end of the day, a fighter's standing will determine what type of value he will bring to his Questing Group.
THERE WILL BE A BULLETIN BOARD AREA WHICH WILL CONTAIN THE DAY'S SCHEDULE. Please consult the Bulletin area for scheduling and contest information. OPENING COURT ON SATURDAY IS AT 9:30 am.
