Altavia Baronial Anniversary
". . . on a field, Vert"
SATURDAY, MAY 12, 2007
Join the Barony of Altavia at Veterans Park on Saturday, May 12th, 2007 in a celebration of Green! Green is a symbol of nature. In Egypt the floors of the temple were green. Among the Greeks and Moors, it signified victory. To the Muslims it is a sacred color. The Scottish Highlanders wore green as a mark of honor. It is the national color of Ireland. Leonardo da Vinci declared that green represented water. In China it denotes east. Verdant, emerald, turf, moss, these are all words that describe and embellish this very noble color. Wear a bit of the green, or come completely bedecked in it (there will be prizes for best use and display of green on your garb!) As part of their year-long Champion Games Tourney, Crimson Spade will be running the Chess tournament to determine the best in the land. Heavies, Rapier and Youth Combat fighters will test their mettle on the green grass and battle to become Baronial Champions!
Arts & Sciences competition encourages a generous portion of your entry to be green, any green, in any art form. Let your verdigris muse loose and create an object that will make others green with envy! A Bardic Competition will determine the best "Ode to Green." Entries may include anything from poems to dances and songs.
Some say it isn't easy being green, but in Altavia it is a way of life! Place your chair upon the green and enjoy the lush sights of the day. Give a green light to family and friends and bring them along. There will be a Lunch Basket Competition & Auction: Bring a decorated basket with a meal for 2 with all appropriate utensils and place settings, a list of ingredients, plus a surprise or two. Everything in the basket is for the winner to keep. Baskets and contents will be judged, then auctioned and there will be prizes for the Basket Makers . Buy a delicious lunch to nourish and keep you feeling in the GREEN! Also, we'll have lots of green activities and games for adults and children alike. All are welcome to come out of the green room and play upon the grassy fields!
