Mons Draconis Celebration of Rebirth

(formerly known as Dreiburgen’s Spring Fling) Sponsored by the Canton of Mons Draconis and the Barony of DreiburgenRRE

Mons Draconis is reborn! The theme is phoenixes, dragons and resurrection.

  • When: Saturday, February 28, 2009, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Where: Hunt Park (4015 Jackson Street; Riverside, CA 92503)

Site Fee: $5 for member adults, $3 for children 5-12, $3 non-member surcharge. Make checks payable to SCA/Barony of Dreiburgen, Canton of Mons Draconis.

Armored Combat Scenarios

Heavy Weapons Tournament: Format depending on participation.

  • Rose Melee: A single weapon contest with a target (The Rose) vs. acted out blows.
  • Plague Rat Melee: In development, it will be a general melee of two sides with random rats inflicting injuries.
  • Resurrection Melee Tournament: A five person team (one pole, one great weapon, one sword and board, one two weapon, one optional). Five resurrections each for the whole tournament, double elimination, one-minute resurrections.

Non-Combat Competitions

  • Edible Rose: Roses in the recipe, or a dish looking like a rose.
  • Performance Rose: Any performance of less than five minutes themed for the Rose.
  • Ode to a Plague Rat: Our traditional poetry contest.
  • Best Indulgence for Excesses during Lent: Indulgences will be sold, ahem…an entry fee will be charged, by the successor of Baroness Saint Rowena, but the purchaser must prepare the indulgence which describes the sins to be overlooked and the manner in which they may be practiced. Paper will be available for last minute entries.
  • Divining: A competition in honor of Lord Bartholomew’s office as Baronial Oracle.

The autocrats will be on site to reserve space by 7:30 a.m. Unfortunately, we cannot have merchants in Hunt Park. Site is dry, and non-smoking. Handicapped accessible, and pets are okay.
