Talk:Order of the Laurel
- "Premier: Neptha of Thebes"
- Neptha was the second Laurel created by a Caidan king on 10/28/1978, but the "earliest" Laurel who is still a Laurel. Giesele Hildegaard of the Mystic Dragon was Laureled at the First Coronation Festival 1978 on 06/03/1978 but resigned from the order in 1986. So who should be listed on this page?--Lachlan 16:21, 12 May 2010 (PDT)
I personally think that the listing of a "premier" member is irrelevant. Some kingdoms have that as a position or recognition, because the premier functions as secretary, or somehow carries more weight in council (?). It is not something that the Order in Caid has ever paid attention to. If pressed, I'd have identified as premier the first Caidan (subject of the Prince of Caid) who was awarded a Laurel by the Crown of the West. That would probably be Flavia or Bevin (which is not the same as the earliest Westie with a Laurel who eventually moved to Caid).
If you really, really want to list the first Laurel made by the Crown of Caid, then Giesele Hildegaard is the appropriate choice. The fact that her resignation was accepted much later is irrelevant (since there is no recognized position or function "premier" within the Order, what does it matter whether the person is currently a Laurel?) On the other hand, that might embarrass / discomfit Giesele to have that pointed out to the world. --EowynA 12:59, 13 May 2010 (PDT)
- Thanks for your opinions. I'm thinking perhaps, for the awards that are SCA-wide, the founding date and premier(s) should be the very first awarding, regardless of kingdom (probably all from the West). I'm also tempted to change the heading "premier" to "first awarded to", which would be more accurate. Then, in cases where we know the first awardee was specifically designated a premier, we can note that in the page text.--Lachlan 14:25, 14 May 2010 (PDT)
