Silas Aurelius was born in Venetzia in the mid 16th century. Raised by a single mother on the mean streets, he joined the Navy at a young age to serve his state and see the world beyond Venice’s cramped streets. After a few years at the mast, he later became a merchant marine for ships making for the North & western coasts of Africa. It was during one if these runs to West Africa that disaster struck. Silas’ vessel ran afoul of a storm, and he ends up stranded on an island. He was alone for years, having to eke a living out from the dangers of that savage place. Eventually he was rescued by Portugese sailors who saw the smoke of a campfire, and he took a long sail back towards Venetzia, speaking only little of his time upon the island. When he returned to his birthplace he had never felt more alone. His time stranded made him too brusque and violent, causing people to give him wide berth. He turned to crimes of strongarming and enforcement for gangs. Eventually he fell in with the latter-period Horsemen of Judgement keep, becoming a sworn sword in AS LIII and serving them unwaveringly since.

Silas was born a far flung cousin of nobility who took an officers commission with the Venetian Navy. After the long war against the Ottoman Empire, he quit Naval service to pursue a living as a merchant marine, plying the newer exploratory and trading routes opening up along the North Westerly coasts of Africa. It was upon one of these voyages that disaster struck. The vessel Silas had chartered ran afoul of a harsh tropical storm. He became stranded upon an as of then unknown island far off the closest mainland shore. For a year and a half Silas had to survive the horrors of this deserted island until his rescue by Portugese sailors. Rarely did he speak of “that Godless place” though in his personal writings he had mentioned colorful tales of wild beasts, savage natives and whispering shadows.
Upon return to Europe, Silas’ personal estate had already been split among surviving family members. Now destitute of both business and coin, he took to wandering the countrysides of Italia, and eventually France, Spain, Austria, Poland, and even at one point the Ottoman empire. It was there in a dockside tavern over drinks that he ran afoul of the Brigand de Gestas. The two had both been in their cups and had begun a discussion of shared interest: Swordplay. Through boasts and challenges the two found themselves outside wrestling, a sword duel having devolved to fisticuffs. It was some moments and a broken nose later that the Brigands own crew arrived to his aid, stomping Silas’ drunken body into the cobbles.
Upon awakening, Silas began searching for that Brigand... For what, we may never truly know.
