Sir Halfdan Haraldsson

Warrior stalks to
Waiting field,
Battle torch bright
In summer sun,
Searching boldly
The crown to claim.
The ravens circle,
Raucous watchers.
They will get their due.
First to fall,
Fierce Rudolf Fekter,
His bone house battered.
Lorccan next, Irish
Lord, laid low
By Halfdan’s blade.
But Jarl Drogo deals
Deadly blows
Driving Halfdan down to the dust.
Any knight so named
Knows, each warrior he
Faces may wield his fate.
Sir Willhelm strikes,
Swift death dealer.
Halfdan’s hopes are dashed.
In battle fierce,
Bold Halfdan faced
Four noble foes.
He could not
Claim the crown, but
His honor held, untarnished.
Cattle die.
Kinsmen die.
All men are mortal.
Words of praise
Never perish
Nor a noble name.
