Inspired by the artistry of Mistress Danaë FitzRoberts of the West (and tired of hauling rugs to serve as flooring for the baronial pavilion), Giuseppe and Giles decided to promote the creation of a groundcloth. Mistress Danaë had given the barony a painted groundcloth at Anniversary 2012, and it was a popular idea. Initial discussions with the Financial Committee were positive, and Countessa Lucianna was asked to create a concept sketch for art to decorate the cloth. The Committee approved an expenditure from Baronial funds to purchase the cloth, with a requirement that compensation for the artist and additional materials would be paid by monies raised by providing space for individual's armory on the cloth, and (at a premium) their depiction in the central panel. Premium levels: $30 (under the Artist's direction, paint your own arms on the cloth); $60 (one of our artists will paint your arms); $100 or more: (one of our artists will paint your arms, and a depiction of you in the central panel of the cloth). This design was inspired by an illumination in the Military Ordinance of Charles the Bold. The colors and main element --the central panel, with a shield at the pinnacle of the arch-- come directly from the illumination, while the different layouts for the armory are adjustable for the number of contributions received. The lower panel, which will contain the heraldry of the current and prior territorial nobility, will have three pairs of blank shields to accommodate future fiefholders.
