Glückhaus is a simple Put and Take game.

The board can be drawn on paper if need be, or can be an elaborate series of decorated areas numbered 2-12. (http://www.wyvernproductions.com/historic-games.htm#Glückhaus)

The rules are simple, roll two six-sided dice and if there is a token in the matching numbered space, you take it; if not, you must put one in.

Except

  • 2 = The Pig
If you roll 2 you collect all the tokens except The House, The Wedding, and The King.
  • 4 = The House
Players always add to the house when they roll a 4. The owner who provided the game will get all tokens here when the game is over. If the owner is collecting The House, it is a kindness to seed some of the spaces after they are cleared by The Pig or The King. The owner can also choose to not collect for The House.
  • 7 = The Wedding
You always bring a gift to a wedding, so everyone puts in when they roll a seven. Traditionally everyone cheers and takes a drink too.
  • 12 = The King
It's good to be the king. Rolling a twelve will clear the board, including The Wedding but not The house. Sometimes, this will end the game, if not, the owner sometimes re-populates some of the spaces with tokens from The House.
