The 1st Anniversary Tourney of Darachshire will be held on Saturday, February 28, 1976, at Bubbling Springs Park, in Port Hueneme.
This will be a Leap Year Tourney1, and by decree of Prince Gregory of York, the official date of the tourney will be February 29th (only a small change in the Gregorian calendar). Lists will be held to determine the Champion of Darachshire and various contests will be held.
LADIES BOFFER LISTS: Shield and head protection will be required, as well as waivers. The winner will choose the "Lord of Love and Beauty." Sponsor: Dediana du Corwyn
EMBROIDERY CONTEST: Since the occasion is the anniversary of Darachshire, the subject will be the Arms of the Shire. A prepared cloth, with the Arms of the Shire printed on it will be furnished to all entrants. Any embellishments to the basic design, i.e., edging (commercial or handmade), decorative embroidery, diapering, etc., will be taken into account in judging.
The prepared cloth will be available at Southern 12th Night or by contacting Dediana du Corwyn, Deputy Seneschal of Darachshire. Sponsor: Robert MacChlurain of the Isles
LORDS EMBROIDERY: It is know that the Ladies are not alone in proficiency of embroidery, and it is our wish to emphasize this fact. This contest will be held at the Tourney. Prizes will be awarded in two categories: Best Work and Most Bloodstained. Sponsor: Elizabeth of Esvere
REVERSE NECK NUZZLE: (Ladies Nuzzling) After all, it is Leap Year! No shortage of volunteers for judges is anticipated. Sponsor: Lady Gabrielle nicChlurain
SCIENCES CONTEST: Build, in any convenient size, a working model of any Medieval Siege Engine; remember, you have to move it! Sponsor: AElfgar Bergstrom
HERALDRY CONTEST: Entrants will be given a sheet containing devices which they will be required to blazon. Winner will be determined by the largest number of correct blazons. Sponsor: Dediana du Corwyn
CHILDREN'S COLORING: Prizes will be awarded for Most Colorful, Most Original, and Neatest Work. Sponsors: Eoin MacChlurain of Northmarch and Templar of Northmarch
COOKING CONTEST: Any kind of pastries, e.g., fruit, meat, or vegetable-filled. Please bring a copy of your recipe. Sponsor: Alexander Graylorn
Rumor hath it that the Insulters Guild is entering all the contests.
If permitted, all entries in the Cooking Contest will be added to the potluck fare of the Revel, to be held at Castle Darach after the tourney.
Set-up will begin at 9:30 a.m., and Opening Court will be at 11 a.m., Viscount Sir Christian's Time. Anyone wishing more information may call Dediana du Corwyn.
