Mistress Angela of Rosebury

Memories

From Giles Hill

Angela and Duncan Brock of Greyfeather (to whom she was, at that time, married) were having an argument about something... something so insignificant that it is lost to the misty depths of time. Both parties were, however, adamant in their positions and aggressive in their defense. There was no movement on either side until Duncan struck an attitude and said, "Woman, mind your place!" All of the witnesses stepped back, as we knew --Ange being a woman of strong mind and resolute purpose-- that a lightening strike was on its way. Angela resumed her seat, took up her sewing, and sat mute for the rest of the afternoon. When the event was over, I asked her how it was that she did not take issue with Duncan's admonition. "We had an agreement," she said, "that he could use that line at an event once. That was his one time."
