Golden Lance from Eowyn

Hi! I just saw the proposed design for the Order of the Golden Lance (great idea, BTW) - the badge has clearly been "Caidanized" by adding the embattled bordure. If it is not too late in the process, I suggest that the embattlements be turned slightly, so that the lance is not shown going from battlement to battlement (which makes it look like the long thin gold thing is joining them), but rather that the lance goes from merlon to merlon, which provides some blue space around the gold object. I also suggest that the lance be drawn a bit thicker, even though that wreaks havoc with the proportions. That makes it easier to figure out what the long thin thing is, from a distance of greater than a few inches. These are just suggestions to make the badge more legible.--EowynA 11:18, 17 November 2008 (PST)

Rotating the embattlement does not require a heraldry change. It is just artistic. I'll see what I can find on a more distinct lance (probably in a heraldry book, actually), and scan it and make a vector drawing. --EowynA 13:22, 17 November 2008 (PST)

Crown Poems Summer 2008

One of the participants in the most recent crown came to the wiki to look up their poem. Unfortunately, their poem has not yet been added. I know you're hella busy. Do you have a guess when the poems will be "filled out"? Would there be anyone else who could copy the poems in?--Lachlan 11:30, 20 January 2009 (PST)

  • Well... the agreement with the crown poem staff is that I won't add new poem books until the next coronation, so that the paper copies can be sold out. They just allowed me to put up the poems about us, so I could link to our royal page. So I'm under obligation not to put them up until June coronation. If they need them earlier, I can send hard copies. --Kolfinna 12:49, 20 January 2009 (PST)
  • I haven't found anyone else with pagemaker, which is the program required to open the source files. If we can find someone with that program and the time and inclination to do it, I'll happily send the project along. --Kolfinna 12:53, 20 January 2009 (PST)
    • Thank you. Understood. I have let her know of the necessary limitation. I also do not use Pagemaker.--Lachlan 13:05, 20 January 2009 (PST)

New Users

  • Sorry. I've been having so much fun editing event pages I forgot to look for new users. Thanks for picking up my slack. Shouldn't this system email the administrator when a new account is made? What criteria did you use to determine some accounts should be "deleted"?--Lachlan 07:25, 4 February 2009 (PST)
    • Well most wiki's allow any users (even anon folks) to make changes. We're using the wiki differently than it was intended, which is why I guess it doesn't email the administrator. There is probably an add-on that will do it, talk to Lorenz about that, to see if he can find one. The criteria I used for the spammer accounts were the very spammer sounding names... I've edited/spam patrolled a lot of things over the last decade, and those just yelled spammer to me from experience. --Kolfinna 10:55, 4 February 2009 (PST)

Knowledge Bases

I think the Lyondemere Knowledge Base is really cool, especially using the category to brows related articles. Should we do that elsewhere? Dreiburgen now has a ton of articles, so maybe it could use a DKB. ...Or do we not want to get carried away with that stuff?--Lachlan 17:42, 17 March 2009 (PDT)

  • I think if it's cool, lets do it :) --Kolfinna 02:09, 24 March 2009 (PDT)
    • Though personally I'd just categorize them as "Lyondemere" or "Dun Or" rather than "Dun Or Knowledge Base". --Kolfinna 16:46, 24 March 2009 (PDT)
      • Agreed that "...Knowledge Base" is ungaingly, but would there be confusion between "Dun Or" the category and "Dun Or" branch page?--Lachlan 10:22, 25 March 2009 (PDT)
        • I don't think so, because at the start of the category page, we'd put a See Dun Or... just like all the other categories. --Kolfinna 10:24, 25 March 2009 (PDT)
          • Yeah. OK. That seems to work. If you enter, say "Laurels" into the Search box, it takes you to the article, not the category. That's what I'd expect the users to want. Then they can navigate from there to the category. Maybe on each Baronial article there should be specific link to the category within "More Information", rather than relying on the user to notice the link the wiki adds at the very bottom.

Template talk

  • I was following your edits removing the code from the incorrect page of the populace template. Obviously, we're having some difficulties explaining how to use templates. (You might recall I didn't figure it out until I asked you) I've received exactly "0" comments regarding the use of nowiki tag and extra instructions on the Template talk pages. Is there a way to add instructions on the Template page for the user to navigate to Template talk? I'm certainly thinking of adding some instructions on the help page.--Lachlan 10:58, 25 March 2009 (PDT)
    • If you click manually through the help files to the template, it takes you directly to the template talk page... If they do a search for it, it takes them to the hardcoded page. I'm not sure what to do on it. Though other folks have gotten the templates down fine (I need to really go through Help:Populace Names and populate all the pages... /sigh)--Kolfinna 14:53, 25 March 2009 (PDT)
  • I never received any comments on the previous experiment in Template talk:Coronet or any indication anyone even looked at it. So I've edited Template talk:Populace to work similarly. Note that the text does not wrap. If it causes a big stir, we can easilly revert to the old version, at least we'd know it had been tested...--Lachlan 16:19, 29 April 2009 (PDT)
  • The problem I ran into first was that nowiki tags cause the wiki to ignore carriage returns. When I used pre tags, the carriage returns worked, but the wrapping didn't. There are a couple of solutions, but I didn't do them because they'd make it harder to go back to the way it was before. One is to use pre tags and add carriage returns where we think the lines aught to wrap. The other is to use nowiki tags arround each line of text, preserving carriage returns in-between. Probably the second solution is best, but would be the most messy to write and hard to undo (save using revert)--Lachlan 17:24, 29 April 2009 (PDT)
    • I'm not a Wikipedia editor, so I don't know. I poked about their help for a while and couldn't figure it out (WAY more complex than CC, obviously)--Lachlan 09:57, 30 April 2009 (PDT)

Picture Help

Thank you so much for the help with resizing that picture. I was going to try and figure out how to do that tonight after Angels Baronial Council Meeting and when I got home, it was like magic. Already done. Thank you, thank you. --James the Inconstant 00:35, 10 April 2009 (PDT)

White Scarf Tree

In the White Scarf order, we don't really have lineages that would make an exciting breakdown like the Knight/Squire relationship. We don't have Cadets, like many other kingdoms, some WS's have personal Students, but not all, and certainly not all White Scarves have been Students to other 'Scarves. Many, recently Oliver is a good example, have learned from a lot of different 'Scarves and don't really have lieage ties. Certainly the early 'Scarves don't either. I'm afraid it would look really boring...:Capnlot 00:28, 15 April 2009 (PDT)

  • Yes, but in Outlands they had a Cadet system. The only Caidan Scarves that have lineage are Arabella(2), Laertes(2), Giacomo(1), Robert (1-double Laertes), Battista(2-sort of). I could set up a list of the Order in which they were made, like what's on Arabella's site.. --Capnlot 17:49, 15 April 2009 (PDT)

Scrolls

Thank you so much for fixing the scroll pages! It looks awesome!  :) Aliskye 17:49, 21 April 2009 (PDT)

  • Yay! We're a page of the month!  :) That makes me gleeful and giddy! Aliskye 14:56, 28 April 2009 (PDT)

Pentathlon 2009

Per the team captain, Tonwen, the winning team is "The Whole Hog of Damocles". (Not Whole Hogs :) The name is derived from their collection interest in doing this *whole hog*  :) Aliskye 21:08, 26 April 2009 (PDT)

  • Have I told you you totally rock lately? Aliskye 21:40, 26 April 2009 (PDT)

Well, bummer. In any case, it was nice to see some Arms I hadn't seen in a LONG time.
