Out of your doldrums
Duke Edric Aaron Hartwood
Victorious in Fall Crown Tourney, A.S. XLII
Out of your doldrums, o bards and musicians come,
Break out the trumpets, prepare ye to sing;
Shake off your lassitude, take up the zils and drum,
Edric, Duke Edric is going to be King!
Sailed he from England, and thence to far Outremer,
Traveled on foot to a land farther still,
Found him Fa’izah, the first of all ladies fair,
Gave her his faith, and his courage and will.
Fallen, brave Tannenberg, and Irish Cormac
(Charmer of ladies, collector of tales!),
Harp-bearing Baroness murmurs “Alas, alack;”
Isidore’s darling must stifle her wails.
Gone too is Aethelwulf, lost to a kingly dream,
Edric now faces the best still alive.
Armored in honor, of Kingdom the very cream,
Five splendid Knights, yea, I say to you, five!
Ravenscroft, Mottrum, and Marcus, O’Malley,
And bold Sir Edward, the left-handed Knight,
All are defeated, but in their last sally,
Hartwood and Marcus give pain and delight.
Edric disarmed all with humor and exercise,
(Jamal disarmed too), in laughter they vied,
Friends to the end, though they battled in warrior guise,
Of both their ladies the joy and the pride.
Hail to Duke Edric, the fighter victorious;
Five times a King (this must add to his fame),
Done for his lady this deed bright and glorious,
Lustre yet greater accrues to his name.
Thrice have I praised thee, o great-hearted Royal,
Thrice have thy exploits inspired my song,
Take this of me, to the Crown ever loyal—
E’er I depart lest I linger too long!
