Articles about "Bards" and "Bardic"
Everyone has a different idea about what is a "Bard" -- both in the SCA and throughout history. Several people have written at length about their perspective on the topic, and following are some links to their works.
- http://www.pbm.com/pipermail/minstrel/1995/006165.html - A discussion of Bardic nomenclature by Master Jed Silverstar (Jed O'Connor), written in 1995 (Master Jed was from Trimaris, and passed away in 2005)
- http://www.pbm.com/~lindahl/cariadoc/concerning_the_c_in_sca.html - An article from Cariadoc's Miscellany titled "Concerning the C in SCA" including a section titled "The Bardic Arts: A Comment" by Master Cariadoc (David Friedman), (Published in The Mews, summer 1988)
- http://www.wodefordhall.com/bard_thing.htm - "The Bard Thing: A rant" by Jehanne de Wodeford (Lisa A. Joseph)
You can draw your own conclusions. But these articles will give you some background to the discussions that have been held over the years.
