Flat Edric

By Ragnailt Inghean Mhaoil Sheachlainn
Many gentles of Caid's populace may have heard the tale of "Flat Stanley" - the intrepid "dimensionally challenged" adventurer who makes his way around the world exploring locales far and near, sharing his information with school children everywhere. Hidden in the tomes of Caid's legend and lore is a tale of our Kingdom's own intrepid "dimensionally challenged" adventurer - the Flat Duke.
As the story is told by those who were there, and bore witness to what came to pass...
Once upon a time, the year 2011, to be exact - there was a most noble and chivalrous Duke who served His Kingdom well, and faithfully - and who took upon himself the mantle of one of the Stewards of our very own Great Western War. Devotedly, he performed his duties, preparing for the event, making sure all was well, and everything was ready just as it should be, for the populace...
AND THEN...
as so often happens, and can be expected, the unexpected came to pass.
The goodly, noble Duke was suddenly summoned to a far away land to train with a different military, who wore livery of camoflauge green. In his absence, his co-steward, the lovely, capable, and quite formidable Dame Ismay of Giggleswick took full charge of the reins, insuring the war was run well, a great success and enjoyed by all, though the much beloved Duke was sorely missed...
And thus was born "His Grace,Flat Edric" -aka a life-sized cardboard cut out of the Duke himself, a "dimensionally challenged" version of the larger than life King.
His Grace "Flat Edric" attended the event in His twin and inspiration's stead, and though it most certainly wasn't the same as having the REAL Duke Edric present... His Grace "Flat Edric" most assuredly lifted spirits and brought smiles to all those who encountered his presence!
Sadly, over the years, His Grace "Flat Edric" journeyed on to new adventures, having quietly departed from the war without word, his current location unknown - however, it would be wise to keep an eye out, for one never knows when that erstwhile explorer might return... it might even be at an event near you!
A very special thanks to the lovely Dame Ismay of Giggleswick for sharing this wonderful story with me, for her service to our fair Kingdom, and for the incredible awesomeness that she is. I am forever in gratitude! A very special thank you as well to Duke Edric for being...well.. not flat at all, and a genuinely lovely person!
