I met Carl of Carmarthan at my first event in Dreiburgen at Balin and Lorissa's Coroneting. Carl was open and friendly, and everything that one could want for a first-time contact. He got me and many others enthusiastic about knitting mail. He was always making something and trying new materials to see how they'd work for SCA applications: Titanium welding-rod chainmail, honeycomb aluminum kite shields, brass counterweights for rattan swords... all kinds of things. He had a good word for everyone and shared his enthusiasm. He was genuinely good to all people of all rank or experience.
