Lady Medb the Spinner

Memories

Another of the best kind of Ladies for which Caid is known: who can be a Lady and never be a doormat. Sparky, sassy and good-humoured. One of the early "fiber enablers" in Caid. I learned drop-spindle from her. She served as seneschale of the Canton of Caldera Keep, then-part of the Barony of Altavia. Canton meetings were at her house, even after her illness prevented her from participating in events very much. At the last of these meetings, Their Royal Majesties, Patrick and Lynn, snuck in the back way and presented her with her Dolphin, only a few short weeks before her passing. Money cannot buy this kindness and recognition, while the recipient is alive to know it. Gone from this earth, taken in early summer of 1990 by metastasized Breast Cancer. Let her name be remembered at the Pink Ribbon Tournament and all such occasions. ~ Selene Colfox

I knew Medb for many years through a Scottish Renaissance Faire Group known as the Clan MacColin. She was much as Mistress Selene described there as well. She had a strong personality without being overpowering or abrasive. She was simply a good and talented person. Back in the day, there was a bit of a wall between the SCA and the Renaissance Faire and people like myself seldom mentioned their participation of one at the events of the other.. Medb was one of those who helped break down that barrier. Her wake was held at the home of members of Glen an Tiegh and there arose a bit of a contention over who loved her most. It was a bit like the song, "Finnegan's Wake" (although I may be exaggerating a wee bit). I'm sure Medb would have been amused. Needless to say, she was well loved. ~ Eadwynne of Runedun
