From the Caid List

Lord Mathew Silverwood of Nyghthaven (born December 24, 1943) passed away at 3:45 am Monday January 23, 2012 from Pneumonia and lung cancer.

Matthew joined the SCA in early 1983. At first he just quietly listened and observed, then after a short period of time he spoke. This manner of speech was such that he was called, in irony Matthew the Silent, Matthew was a founding member of the order of St. John (Hospitallers) in the Barony of Angels and also was a member of the Baronial Guard. Probably his most distinct achievement was his creation of Iwa (E'-wah): a Japanese themed group that was known for their pageantry and display. He was a member the Middle Eastern household Al Khattaru AKA the Caravan, again a group known for their splendor. Matthew also organized the pilgrimages to honor Saint Sebastian the Peacemaker.

Matthew was avid musician, playing guitar, keyboards, bass, drums and percussion. He was heavily involved in Drumstrong and the 24 hour drumathon at Remo Drums, both fundraisers for cancer research.

Matthew served in the United States Air Force from 1963 to 1966, including the Vietnam conflict. For those who did not know him, I am sorry you missed such a force of nature. For those who did know him, we will not see one such as he again.
