The weekend after Coronation comes the FIRST HEATHERWYNE ANNIVERSARY and SECOND ANNUAL DESTRUCTION AND INTIMIDATION MELEE TOURNEY. This momentus event will occur June 9 at Olive Dale Park in Upland. (N.B.: The map in the May Crown Prints was re-drawn from the one sent in, and is wrong. Corrected version appears elsewhere in the Press.)

To suit the joyous and light-hearted nature of the occasion, there will be various types of formalized violence available, including:

  • Single-weapon melee - No great weapons, no shields
  • Off-handed melee - Weapon in shield hand and vice versa
  • Legless melee - You can't be taken to your knees - you're already on them
  • Orcish melee - Curved bladed or impact weapons only, must fight in a stoop or crouch, may not co-operate with other fighters
  • Free-for-all ("Diplomacy") melee - "First we all get together and kill Paul, and then if there are any survivors..."
  • Fight Yourself contest - Standard tourney gear, but your only opponent is yourself; go forth and die!
  • Home Game - You don't even want to know

Also: the Tomascz the Hammerhand Look-Alike Contest - "...but can he curl a 90-pound anvil?"

For practitioners of the pacific arts, there will be:

  • Field Costume contest - Practical, comfortable, and authentic; sponsored by Angelina of Walden West
  • Best (or Worst) Joke about Heatherwyne - No puns, they're too easy; sponsored by Lord Yaroslav the Persistant
  • Best Song about Heatherwyne - Humourous, serious, scurrilous, whatever you please; sponsored by Karin von Schatten
  • Two heraldry contests: Best Device Using A Cat As A Charge, sponsored by Kevin of the Masked Cat; and General Knowledge of Heraldry, sponsored by Andrew Ian of Blackthorne
  • Best Poem In A Foreign Language - Since sound and meaning are what make a poem, let's judge on just that. The author will read the poem aloud to the judges, and give them a written translation. Sponsored by Karin von Schatten

That evening there will be, needless to say, a revel, site TBA. Tickets are $4.00, which includes a cold buffet and drinks, or $2.00 if your main interest is simply drinking. Reservations should be sent to Edward de Anvil (Ed Doub) at..... before the end of May.

The Improbable Drinks contest, so successful(?) last year, will be repeated; a written recipe should accompany a sample of your concoction, suffient to allow the judges to properly evaluate it.

Schedule for the day is:

0830 Set Up

1000 Opening Court

1030 Lists Sign-Up

1100 Hitting People With Sticks

1630 Closing Court, some prizes

? Revel, Buffet, other prizes
