Documentation
From Major Competitions
Crescent Artisan 2018
I entered in the first Crescent Artisan, which I think was also my first really serious competition. I furthered my Elizabethan costuming with a loose gown.
Blatand Artisan 2021
Blatand was held during the pandemic, it was similar to Crescent Artisan, but online.
- I made a replica of the 7 Pence Isham Lace (got a 78 out of 100 and some excellent feedback)
- Which I then applied to an Elizabethan smock (though at this time, I can’t recall what this one was entered in but) here is the documentation and pictures for the final project
Pentathlon 2022
- The documentation for the illumination project, which is pictured below under Scribal Projects: Processional page from the 1500s. This took 1st Place Artisan.
- The documentation for the costume review entry, Elizabethan woman (lower upper class), which placed at 1st Journeyman, including a summarized table version of the high points
- I wrote two topic papers, one of which took 2nd place Journeyman. The first one on Renaissance Trim (based on my trim class): Overview of Renaissance Trim 1490 to 1650
- And one on dog collars: Dog Collars in History
- To round out my entries, the final project was a pourpoint, created for baroness Arwen McBaird: 14th Century Pourpoint. This won 1st Place Apprentice.
From Minor Competitions
Besides the quite structured, Kingdom Arts and Science competitions, I also entered items in some other competitions:
- My first Elizabethan, entered at a Festival of the Rose (2017 I think), that was worn for Agrippa and Bridget’s second stepping down (Summer Coronation 2017).
- A very early project, probably one of my first attempts at documentation (which is much more a basic description, looking back). I think it’s the only weaving project I’ve done documentation on the Oseberg Variant
- My first illumination for a competition; Gospel of Luke Carpet page from the Echternach Gospels for Lyondemere Art and Archery 2018. Three items had to be entered to compete for champion. This is one of them: Echternach Gospel of Luke
- Once upon a time (2018), the Laurels did an Arts Challenge, and I entered 2 of the challenges:
- One was the Crescent of Caid scroll for Master Paul fitz Denis (below). The challenge was from Mistress Aliskye Rosel to try to replicate a page accurately.
- The second one was from Mistress Whilja de Gothia, to recreate an article of clothing by hand. I made the Lendberg bra with attached skirt
- At a more recent Festival of the Rose (summer 2024, I think) a small Pyx (box that held Communion for the Church) as Reliquary. This was quite fun to make.
- For the Great Western War XXVII 2025 Artisan Showcase, I wanted a few pages of some very basic documentation for some of my clothing, in case I was talking with someone else and someone had some questions. The clothing was: the Garderobe and the gown made in the Herjolfnes style
