The third Inter-Kingdom Intensive Needlework Symposium was held in the Los Angeles area, at Los Coyotes Middle School in La Mirada during the weekend of April 14 - 15, with fieldtrips on Friday April 13. Cost is $10 for SCA members, $15 for non-members, plus class costs for kits and handouts.

Highlights

  • Friday, 4/13
    • The organized outing for the day was at LACMA. Baroness Xena Baxter Winthorp arranged for us to see a selection of historical needlework items behind the scenes at LACMA. There was only room for 20 people in the room at a time, so we divided into two groups.
  • Saturday, 4/14 - we used three classrooms at the Collegium Caidis site

One classroom was a display of needleworked items brought by the participants Classroom 1 had the following classes: Elizabethan Metal Thread Stitches (4 hrs) - Eowyn Amberdrake Elizabethan Masters' Crowns (1 hr) - Richenda Elizabeth Coffin Period Design Panel Discussion (2 hrs) – many participants Classroom 2 had the following classes: Klosterstich (2 hrs) - Sorcha Fhionn inghean ui Ruairc (West Kingdom) Pearls and Beads and Metals, oh my! (2 hrs) - Giuseppe da Borgia Bobbin Lace for Gloves (3 hrs) - Kassandra of Dragon's Laire (West Kingdom)

  • Sunday, 4/15 -

Opus Anglicanum (2 hrs) - Katherine de Langelei (West Kingdom) Blue Dalmatic from Royal Workshops of Sicily (2 hrs) - Isela di Bari (West Kingdom)

Embroidered Gloves of the 16th & 17th Centuries: Decoration (1 hr) - Iulitta Rowan of Arran (West Kingdom) Elizabethan and Early Stuart Gloves: Slideshow (1 hr) - Duke Alen Elegil (MidRealm) Elizabethan and Early Stuart Glove Construction (2 hrs) - Duke Alen Elegil (MidRealm)
