From the Crown Prints

Saturday, June 27, 2009

Come one, come all to a Midsummer's Faire!

Baron John ap Griffin and Baroness Flavia Beatrice Carmigniani invite the good gentles of Caid to join them at the annual Crown Prints Prize Tourney, to be held in the Barony of the Angels on Saturday, June 27, 2009.

Upon the greensward there shall be unique contests of arms for both heavy weapons and rapier. There shall be music and a wondrous repast to fortify you as you stroll amongst the merchants, come from afar with exotic wares. Be ready to challenge your wits and skills at games and contests. Bring forth your artistic and scientific displays for all to behold. Call upon the whims of fortune in a splendiferous raffle.

Feature Activities

Combat: Armored Combat shall be a tag-team tournament, so fighters, pair up! No more than one knight per team, please, and teams must fight with dissimilar weapons, so bring all your toys. The format of the rapier tournament is yet to be determined, but may follow the same pattern. For each combat, the victors will have the option to send the vanquished to deliver a rose to the recipient of their choice.

Fighter Auction: We're putting fighters on the auction block! Bring your checkbooks and bid on teams. Each tournament's winners will win a beautiful prize for their sponsor.

Lunch: A fine repast of polish sausages and fruit skewers, chased with either lemonade or iced tea, will be offered by Dame Selene and her kitchen crew for a very modest fee.

Cups, cups, cups! The Kingdom Potters' Guild and the Kingdom Brewers' Guild have teamed up to bring you a fantastic opportunity. Purchase a cup from the Potters for $6, and the Brewers will keep it filled with non-alcoholic beverages throughout the day at no extra charge.

Children's Activities: There will be a fairy beanbag toss for children of all ages, run by House Yggdrasil, and Youth Combat will be offered as well.

Drench-A-Knight: The Barony of Dun Or brings you the opportunity to shoot a siege weapon, armed with soaking wet sponges, at your favorite knights!

Buy-A-Song: "Buy-a-song" is an opportunity for members of the populace to commission a song for a loved one, or a praise poem for someone they are proud of, or a tale of some interesting event. The bards of Caid will write the words, find or invent music, and perform it for you.

Scavenger Hunt: Griffin Freehold will be sponsoring a human scavenger hunt. Track down the wayward gentles and you may win any number of prizes.:

CP Art: There will be a CP Art contest. Bring your finest pieces, and you may see them on the cover of CP Prize! For more information, please contact Baroness Flavia Beatrice Carmigniani.

Dragon: The dreaded Dragon of the Angels will make an appearance early in the day to "warm up" armored combattants.

And more! More events and activities are pouring in as we speak. From the Youth Officers' and Marshals' "All Things Chocolate" Booth to Baron Jared's yearly Jeopardy tournament, from indulgences and pilgrim's pins to do-it-yourself divination, there's just too much to put into one article! Check the Kingdom website for weekly updates.

Donations: Each booth in our carnival atmosphere will be raising money for your kingdom newsletter, the Crown Prints. All territories, households, guilds and other groups are invited to put together a booth to help out the CP. Donations for the basket raffle will also be gratefully accepted; please contact the event stewards to donate.

The Big Prize: The team (territory, peerage, household, warband, or group of friends) that brings in the most money for the CP Prize, either by cash donation or by tickets collected at booths, will be named Champion of the Crown Prints. The prize will be your group's photo and armory on the cover of an upcoming Crown Prints (subject to the Chronicler's guidelines, of course).

Memories

From Lachlan of Cromarty

  • This was a very good day. The rapier tournament was organized as contests between teams of two, fighting "tag team" style. I fought alongside Don Andrés. We made a good team, and made it to the finals - a first for me. In the final fight, I double-killed versus Nathaniel Longbow, but his team won since his partner, Svetlana, was still standing in the end. (All my memories from 2009 events are about fencing... Have I become a stick jock?)
