Highlights

The Baronies of Gyldenholt and Calafia invite the populace to a day of Friendship and Friendly Competition. The annual Gyldenholt/Calafia Friendship Tourney will be held at the Pacifica High School at 6851 Lampson Ave, Garden Grove, CA 92845 on Saturday, March 12, 2011, in conjunction with Caid Arts & Sciences Fair & Pentathlon. The theme of the day is "Brothers in Arms" and will center around Friendship, Spirit, and Collaboration. Fighting events will be centered around two-person teams that will be chosen based upon location and skill level (to promote friendship). Come to the event for fun and leave making some new friends! Events include: Baron's Contest (a scavenger hunt), Baronial Armored, Rapier, and Unarmored combat (with pageantry procession), Bocce Ball, Arts and Sciences Competition, Drum/Bardic Circle, and Youth Combat. The Barony of Gyldenholt's Upper Crust Guild will be serving lunch for a monetary donation.

Schedule of Events: 7 AM - Site open for Local Set-Up 8 AM - Site open for General Set-Up 9 AM - Lists Open 10 AM - Opening Court (at TRM pleasure) followed by the Tournament 5 PM - Closing Court followed by Take Down 7 PM - Site Closes

This is a DRY site. There are no pets allowed on site.

The Site fee is $7.00, There will also be a special package for $10 which will cover the site fees for both Pentathlon and Gyldenholt/Calafia Friendship Tourney. The $5.00 Non-Member Surcharge will apply.

Checks payable to “SCA, Inc. / Barony of Gyldenholt.”

Events and Additional Staff: (1) Baron’s Contest: Scavenger hunt…find people and ask questions…teams of 2 from different baronies…simple token as a prize (small baubles)

(2) Baronial Combat: (After round 5th* of Armored Combat). All Forms of Combat (Guards and Fighting Units) will process onto the fields from opposite sides. Calafia will enter first (Heraldry and Pageantry) then followed by Gyldenholt (Heraldry and Pageantry).

Combat Order (1 round each)

  • Armored Combat – Units
  • Rapier Combat – Units
  • Armored Combat – Champions
  • Rapier Combat – Champions

(3) Armored Combat: The combat shall be a 2-man team tournament, double-elimination. Fighters will be paired at random based upon geographic allegiance and fighting experience. 1-xtra life will be awarded to the winning team of the 3-legged race (after 2nd round).

(4) Rapier Combat: The combat shall be a 2-man team tournament, double-elimination. Fighters will be paired at random based upon geographic allegiance and fighting experience. 1-xtra life will be awarded to the living teams on the winning side of the melee warm-up (to be held prior to the tournament).

Warm-up Melee: 2-man teams will be divided into 2 sides. Last side standing wins. Iron Crescent to be defended, hosted and run by the Team in possession of this trophy. Time permitting: Zombie Melee Staff: Sigbiorn Sigmundarson


(5) Unarmored Combat: The combat shall be a 2-man team tournament, double-elimination. Fighters will be paired at random based upon geographic allegiance and fighting experience. Staff: THL Muirrenn ingen Dondubain


(6) Art/Science Competition: A static Art/Science completion to be voted on by the populous. Theme: Collaboration and Teamwork. For more info, please contact moas@sca-gyldenholt.org

Drum/Bardic Circle on the Main Field after the Final Championship Match and before Closing Court

(7) Youth Combat: Youth Combat will be taking place promptly after the end of Opening court in one of the adjacent fields. Format for the tourney is currently TBD.
