Master William Blackfox (Mark Wallace) was the author and illustrator of the cartoon "Warthaven." Elevated to the Order of the Pelican on 01/26/1991 by TRM Patrick Michael Gordonne II and Julia de Montoya II of Ansteorra, he gave generously of his time and talents, and was very supportive of the Kingdom Chroniclers until his untimely death in 1997. To honor his memory, the Office of the Society Chronicler sponsors the annual Master William Blackfox Awards to recognize excellence in the work of Chroniclers, newsletter contributors and various kingdom websites.

Kingdom Chroniclers make the initial nominations from the works in their Kingdom, and a nomination of work in and of itself is an indication of excellence. In each category, a winner and a Commended entry are chosen. The winners of the William Blackfox Awards, along with those entries recognized as Commended, are announced each fall, and appear in the Kingdom newsletters and Tournaments Illuminated. (Note: A mostly complete list of winners and nominees also appears on William Blackfox Awards website.)

Over the years, the following Caidan citizens and publications have been recognized with both nominations and awards for their work:
