Wiki Editors

Welcome Lachlan!

Please join me in welcoming Lachlan of Cromarty back as the Administrator of the Caid Wiki. His dedication and devotion to the Wiki have been ever present since the birth of the Wiki and it is with complete confidence in his knowledge and leadership that the Wiki will continue to grow and prosper with his guidance. I want to thank all of the editors for your work on the Wiki. It has been an honor to be part of the team that continues Kolfinna's legacy ~ The Compendium Caidis. Thank you all for all that you do. --Valdis 22:06, 3 April 2014 (PDT)

Editors

A year ago Kolfinna sent a yearly post to all of the editors asking if they would like to continue in their roles as editors, saying that "The editor position on the wiki requires a bit more responsibility than the regular user". I am continuing that tradition and am asking those in the Editor List if they wish to continue in that role, or begin working in that capacity (there are a couple of you on the Editor list who are not on the Editor staff). Anyone currently in the Editor member list but are not on the Help:Team team may become a member of the Editor Team, just let me know you would like to work in that capacity. Also let me know if you would like to become a member of the Commenter group, you will still be able to edit pages on the wiki as a commenter you just will not have the responsibilities of an Editor.

For those who wish to remain as wiki Editors:

1. Please send me your email address - either add it to your preferences (where it will remain private), or send to me at wiki@caid-commons.org.

2. Add a note to your User Talk page (in response to this message) that you would like to continue or begin working as an editor or become a commenter.

3. Let me know if you believe your work with the wiki encompasses more that the area(s) you are currently allocated and let me know what areas you feel you can monitor/survey. Check the Help:Team page for the current list of Editors and the areas allocated to everyone. --Valdis 02:17, 25 August 2010 (PDT)

  • I will remain as an editor. Currently, I am assigned to Heraldry, which is fine. I also do media, categorization of data, etc.--Lachlan 22:05, 25 August 2010 (PDT)
  • Thank you Lachlan! Your presence on this wiki and your continued service is appreciated and most welcome! --Valdis 21:47, 26 August 2010 (PDT)

Welcome Valdis!

Please join me in congratulating Valdis Isbrandsdottir (talk) as she steps in as Administrator of Compendium Caidis.

Valdis has been active on this site since June 2008. Particularly, she has spent a great deal of time working on the colossal Populace Category, reformatting the populace pages in the formative days of the site, proofreading and fixing name spelling errors and formatting errors, adding offices and personal blazons, assisting with the sub-categorization of the category, etc.

I have great faith that she will serve the community well in her new capacity, adding fresh enthusiasm and finding new ways to make the site better for the users. That said, I'm sure she will need help handling the ever-increasing workload of Administrator. Please lend her your support as your time permits, either by offering to help with special projects, or by doing general editing as needed.

Twice it has been my honor and joy to serve the Caidan populace in this office. I thank you all. I am proud of the work I've done here, and look forward to continuing to "tinker" as an Editor.--Lachlan 21:45, 13 August 2010 (PDT)

To the Editors

As Lachlan said, I have been with the wiki since June of 2008. During that time I have come to appreciate and value all of the work that has gone into the establishment and continued growth of the wiki, not only as a source of information for our Kingdom, but also as a legacy of someone we all hold dear to our hearts. Both Kolfinna and Lachlan put so much of themselves into the Compendium Caidis that they inspired others to continue those efforts, as they have inspired the editors and myself, as well as all of the users of this wiki. My primary goal as admin is to continue and nurture the work they began; and also to fulfill the purpose of the wiki which is to create a source of knowledge gained from life in Caid and the SCA.

I would like to sincerely thank Lachlan for his faith and confidence in my abilities to serve as the wiki administrator. I would also like to thank Lachlan and all of you for continuing to serve as editors. --Valdis 18:24, 14 August 2010 (PDT)

Go back/Go forward

  • I agree the previous and next links do need consideration. I feel they are a good tool for anyone that wants to do Caidan history research and they have been a tremendous aid to my data entry work. You probably noticed that I just spent a lot of time linking the crown tournament pages. I search for every page with Crown or Coronet in the title in order to make sure that I have included all the crown tournament pages that currently exist. I agree that right now if anyone adds a new crown tournament page they may not link then in.

I figured that by doing this I have now made it my responsibility to make sure any new crown tournament pages are linked.

  • Regarding this, the problem I had is that there are a number of different variations in the crown tournament page names. I believe that some standardization for annual events page names is in order. At this time I check to see what other people have done and try to follow the naming standards already set, but when I find that there are already four variations posted all I can do is pick one. (I have the same problem with Queen's Champion Equestrian.)
  • Another thing I have been doing for annual Dreiburgen events is creating hub pages. See Dreiburgen Anniversary as an example, I have already received much praise from my baronial Seneschal and a couple of up coming autocrats for these pages. I was thinking of taking on the responsibility using the Crown Tournament page for the same purpose. What do you think?

Malcolm 10:54 pm 23 February 2010 (PST)

  • I think that making stub pages and there by establishing a page name standard, would be less work then tracking down all the varied names that people would give them on their own.
    • One thing I realized in the Dreiburgen Category is that I had to give page naming careful consideration. If I did not most of the pages in the category index would be in the D’s because their names would have started with Dreiburgen and that would be a real headache for anyone (including myself) looking for a page from within the category.
    • I’m glade you like the hub pages. I was thinking that it would be nice to have many of the generic definition pages like the Crown Tournament page go on to list related pages like all the Crown Tournaments. Helping make this a full inter connected encyclopedia of Caid.

  • First I have responded on User talk:Avenel under "Winter/Spring/Summer/Winter".
  • Second I’m still teaching myself how Wiki works and have been doing most things with the pages after I have seen examples and precedence from other contributors. So what you said sounds good but I probably do not fully understand it.

Test Area

I use this section to work on wording for new articles as needed. Anything herein should be considered "unofficial", at best.

Whenever possible, populace articles should use the person's name as it is registered with the College of Arms of the Society. Unfortunately, many registered names use accented characters and a few non-Latin characters. When a name contains these characters, its article may be alphabetized by the Wiki some distance from where users will likely look for it. This is particularly true if the special character is the first or second character in the name. For example, the name "Þorfastr Varinsson" will be placed after names which start with "Z" and "Róis ni Brian" will be placed after "Ryuusaki Raiden".

Sort Key

A sort key specifies where the page will appear in the category list, and under which letter heading. (By default, the page is sorted under the first letter of its full name including its namespace.) You can add a sort key to a page by adding it inside the Category tag. For example, adding the tag "[[Category:Populace|Thorfastr Varinsson]]" to the article "Þorfastr Varinsson" would place the article in the Populace category with the "T" names, as expected by users. The altered sort key is not visible to users, however. Only the registered spelling will appear in the category listing, article heading, etc.

Thank You!

Lachlan, Thank you for all the time and effort you have put into the wiki office, and your willingness to step up as administrator when you were needed. Thank you for staying on as an editor. It is very much appreciated! --Kolfinna 10:53, 7 August 2009 (PDT)

Heraldic devices from Kingdom Roll of Arms?

Thanks for the quick response; I'll drop her an email. Also, I just had a problem a few minutes ago trying to upload a replacement file for a device .gif for Medb ingen Mathgamna - the first one, due to the sable background, made it look like the raven's leg was detached. I fixed it and uploaded the file again (as Medb_ingen_Mathgamna_1.gif), but it won't show a thumbnail or work on her page. Any thoughts? Thanks! --Dubhghall mac Aodha 19:42, 6 June 2010 (PDT)

Categories

  • What category should Northern Alliance be in? --Valdis 23:24, 26 October 2011 (PDT)
  • From reading the article, I gather this relates specifically to armored combat. The generals are all heavies fighters, the involved non-territorial groups are heavies focused warbands... So I would categorize them under Armored Combat as well as under the appropriate territorial categories. ... In fact, why don't I do that right now!--Lachlan 14:30, 27 October 2011 (PDT)

To the Upload Editors

Caid Roll of Arms

Some of the Devices on the Caid Roll of Arms have mistakes. During the upcoming year (or longer), one of the primary artists of the RoA, Damian von Baden will be correcting the mistakes, meanwhile, please refrain from transferring the RoA heraldic images over to the Wiki unless you know for certain that the image has been corrected. If anyone would like to volunteer to correct the images already on the Wiki that are among those that have been corrected, please contact me for a list. Wiki Administrator at wiki@caid-commons.org

Regarding Muireadhach O'hEidhneacháin

  • I only made minor edits after he added some information to his page the day before. I'm not in contact with him. Go to History and click on his Talk page and there's an email link for him.

Help with Scribal pages

Hey Lachlan! I need a little help. I think I want to do a Scribe page for out of Kingdom scribes (we're getting a lot of help from outside Caid) and up until now, I've just been making a new scribe page for each one. I'm not quite sure how to format it. (I've forgotten what little I know about this stuff. :) I'd appreciate your help. Thanks! aliskye (and I forgot how to do the little sig thing.)

Thanks Lachlan! You fill me with confidence! When I get the rest of the coronation scrolls uploaded I'll work on the new page. (It's been really slow and awful editing the wiki lately, or is that just my computer which sorely needs to be replaced.) Look signature: --Aliskye 16:29, 9 July 2013 (PDT)

Admin Notes

Users can no longer create accounts. This process can only be completed through the Administrative Staff. Go to Help:New Users for instructions! --Valdis 12:12, 23 November 2013 (PST)

Editors - If you no longer wish to be an active editor, please contact me via email at wiki@caid-commons.org to let me know. The only difference would be that you would no longer be listed on the Editor staff, and would no longer be expected to assume the responsibilities of an editor. You would still be able to edit pages on the Wiki. Thank you for all you have contributed to the Caid Wiki! --Valdis 12:12, 23 November 2013 (PST)

New Help with Scribe pages

Lachlan, can you delete the page for Vashey Bat Abraham? I added him when he did a scroll for us, but I've since started to move all the "foreign" scribes to a single page. We don't need Vashey's page any more. Thanks! Aliskye 16:04, 23 July 2014 (PDT)

Page Removal

Please remove the following page:http://wiki.caid-commons.org/index.php/Keinvryd_Ferch_Talon The name was mispelled and was created again with the correct spelling.
