As a suffix, "burg" means "Castle/Fortress", and pluralized as "burgen". So it seems that "Dreiburgen" would mean "three castles", a perfectly reasonable SCA allusion to three modern cities. I think a literal translation of "three cities" would be "Dreistädte". Of course, things are a little confused by the German word "berg", meaning "mountain". But since "berg" is pluralized "berge", "three mountains" would be "Dreiberge".--Lachlan 16:27, 23 March 2009 (PDT)

  • Continuing on my musing about German: In English, we pronounce "burg" (e.g. Vicksburg) identically to "berg" (e.g. iceberg). In German, the vowels sound differently. "Burg" is pronounced pretty well the same way, but "berg" is pronounced with a vowel sound more like "air".--Lachlan 15:13, 7 August 2009 (PDT)
