Sabyna’s Song

I will not cry should Þorfinnr die,
No tears from me will my lord see.

His challenge made to Dietrich’s blade,
White cross abide, both wear with pride:
My voouselur shed blood so pure.

The second fight, another knight:
Iðuna’s lord with mighty sword
Down Þorfinnr went, his two lives spent.

No crown today but no dismay.
His heart is pure, his gaze is sure,
With brethren all he’ll stand or fall:

I praise his name: death brings no shame.
He will endure, his pledge secure.

— Duchess Natalya de Foix
... and her twin brother Gideon ben Levi, were born around 1473 in Spain to a Spanish-Jewish lady (and an English or Norman father, depending on which version of the story you hear.) She was taken as a child to France where she eventually inherited a vast estate. Natalya received her Laurel for Dramatic Performance and Needlework, but mostly enjoys cooking and writing as much poetry as she can.
