Recorder was, originally, the heraldic title registered for use of the herald of the Shire of Riesling (now defunct). The name itself is based upon the primary charges on that group's arms.

It has now come to be a title for use by a Crescent Principal Herald staff position. In this usage, the name has taken on a new meaning; a herald who records information. The title is currently used for the Keeper of the Order of Precedence.
